Total number of elements via SWQL/Powershell

Monthly report requires me to collect the total number of Elements per poller for KPI up to management. I gather this by going to the database details and grabbing it via Copy/Paste.

I've poked around the SWQL studio searching for elements and found several references but I'm unsure of how to collect the same data w/ SWQL and the SWIS Powershell. Anybody tackled this before? My searches in thwack havent been useful thus far.

wes.reneau Here is one of the reports I was thinking of.

Orion Polling Engine Report

I believe that one (from KMSigma) was done based on the previous version, made long ago, by (adatole).

If you look through that thread, you should find some SWQL queries to use as a jumping off point. That is, if you need to add/remove columns.

wes.reneau Hello, are you looking to find an identical match for all data shown on the "Total Element Count" page (/Orion/Admin/Details/ElementsStat.aspx), or just a subset of that data? (I'm sure you are wanting all data from that page, but just double checking.)

Otherwise, the Orion.Engines table has the basics for that data (total elements/nodes/interfaces/volumes).

And I'm pretty sure there have been at least a few posts with custom SWQL (possibly SQL) to rebuild that page within a report.

I'll see if I can track those down and I'll post some links if I can find them.

Not trying to reproduce the entire page, only Elements for the moment, I'm sure that'll change but I'm starting small.

Though the basic data is good enough for most of us, it may just help to keep in mind that Licensing of Orion NPM elements is the "Highest" count of Node/Interfaces/Volumes whereas here the Table shows the "Total" of Nodes/Interfaces/Volumes.

The Total is also used to calculate the percentage load on the poller, example if your Total elements (sum of Nodes, interfaces and volumes) is 12000, then your Poller is at a 100% load, whereas Licensing would actually be interpreted as the Highest (of Nodes, Interfaces and volumes). So if the interface count (presuming that is the highest is 9000, you still have the liberty to add some 3000 more elements But this would mean that your Poller would show up at 125% load.

The SWQL is perfect, it essentially is the same thing as the database details but I'm going to use it to learn. I use most of the stuff out of the box but this is a great spring board into other areas.
