NCM alert of config changes

Is there any way of configuring NCM to execute a command, generate a windows event or syslog when NCM detects a configuration change?We can only seem to be able to either configure an email alert or view a report.

Does a file exist in the system which is updated with a log entry which we could monitor?

The preferred option would be to execute a command which would stuff data into our central event management system.

NCM alert integration with Orion is supposed to enable just what you describe. When a monitored device triggers an alert, one of the alert actions can be for NCM to execute a command on the device. See Chapter 13 of the Orion NCM Administrator Guide.

Thanks for the response docwhite, allow me to elaborate.

a) we are not using SNMP events to notify NCM of config changes, we use NCM to retrieve configs by schedule and then compare the configs

b) when NCM compares the configs, if a change to the baselin has been detected I need NCM to be able to run an external executable that resides on the NCM (or on the NPM via an event that NCM generates) to which it can optionally pass some detail (e.g. the hostname relating to the config checked).

An example of the kind of executable that NCM needs to run might be 'msend' which is used to generate events into BMC patrol.
