Customizing Pages-

Do you all have a baseline on what widgets/what information you display - when customizing pages?

I am trying to implement a standard- one where the information is always in the same place.

For NODES

For INTERFACES

For ALERTS

nato​ With this question, I'm guessing you will receive answers all over the place, from one extreme to another. Everyone will likely have their data displayed differently, as the importance of the data is different in every environment. I would recommend making a list of what information is important to you, and your organization, then building out from there.

For me, I tend to break it down to purpose. For example, when it comes to my nodes, I have a "DSLAM" view, which is very specifically designed, built out exclusively for our DSLAM nodes. That view shows things for our DSL nodes, which do not show up on any other view. For our nodes which help us identify power issues, we have a completely different layout established, built specifically for those nodes. This goes on and on, for all of our major node purposes.

While this does require a bit more time to think, plan, and build out, it works really well, and keeps pages neat... (well, more neatly organized than they previously were, though, I doubt an outsider would actually consider them to be neat.)

The purpose of the page will help you know what types of widgets to include. For example, if it's a display page, you would probably want to have completely different widgets than if it were a "working" page, where you would want to have access to options which would allow you to manage, or work on the node. Also, depending on what your management wants/requires, you may find yourself building different versions of the same page, which can get messy really quickly if you don't have a plan, and/or haven't set any expectations for those plans.

While I'm certainly not speaking for everyone here, I'd still guess your solution will be different than what everyone else is doing. Additionally, and if possible, start as small as you can. Perhaps finding the minimal amount of data required will help you build your pages out more naturally, over time.
