I didn't even know this was a thing. I will now go out and purchase confectionery for the team when I'm on site tomorrow, in honour of Pi day!

PI Day does not exist in Europe (DD-MM-YYY).

Unless, of course, you are using a Julian Date (314 = November 10th).

And every 4th year the Julian PI Date will fall on November 9th.

Nothing happening for us on the American PI Day, but the day after on 3-15-2019 we are celebrating St Patty's Day at work; which I will be wearing my Scottish colors and show those Irish how to wear a proper Kilt.

I have several "Pi"s in my stack-o-stuff in my basement, but none of them are doing anything right now. Tried to make a NAS out of one of them but apparently it is too old to take the FreeNAS distro...oh, well. :-|

Long ago I abandoned our English/American "standard" date format, preferring to use the order of year, month, and day for all of my personal files--especially for naming and indexing family photographs.

March 14, 2019, or 3/14/19, is unwieldy for simpler computer programs to properly sort quickly and intuitively, where 20190314 is easier for them to handle. I can quickly sort photos and albums by my date/name solution, and I find it intuitive and more compatible with multiple systems and services than any other date format. I probably just haven't thought it through far enough. ;^)

It will never cause confusion or put dates out of order when sorting by file names using this format. But the photograph names can become unwieldy in length . . . "20190314_Family_Trip_To_DC_With_Cottinhams_and_Freda" etc. is intuitive, but who wants to look at it after a lifetime of being trained to the 8.3 format of DOS?

Some systems incorrectly date jpgs or other files by the date they showed up on that computer or drive, even if the pictures were created many years earlier. Other systems attempt to use the dates embedded in the file's creation field, while still others use relative or non-relevant fields if they cannot read the create date information, simply because certain digital images don't carry that data or don't provide it in an understandable format for the computer/system displaying them.

If I had my 'druthers I'd rather year (XXXX), month (XX), day (XX) were an international standard. . It would eliminate many incompatibilities and frustrations between nations (I think . . . ).

Of course, Pi Day could never happen using that format. 31415926 isn't a valid format because my method only allows digits placed in position 5 and 6 to be 01-12, and those placed in positions 7 and 8 to be 01-31. Thus the year could be 3141, but the month must be 59 instead of 05 (as required by my method, and we don't have a 59th month), while the day remains 26.

But it works everywhere else for date, and is (apparently) easily compatible with other countries and languages.

Great minds think alike, Rick...glad to see I'm not the only one. I've been using that nomenclature for filenames since before 19800101 was a thing (speaking of our friend DOS). And yes, using the leading zero/double digit code in the day and month where appropriate is key, but that takes some getting used to as well. Someone call ISO and let's make this a REAL thing!!
