I have a new project coming up, Fellow Thwackers, what should I do for the following case?
I have 3 industrial PC's being placed in the plant, 2 of which are side by side. They need to communicate back to the main network so we can read information off of the equipment they are going to monitor. We have Fiber from the plant to the main data center. I do not really want to use more fiber converters as this is 2017 so I proposed,
3 switches:
2 8 port with 2 SPF+ ports
1 8 port or larger with 4 SPF+ ports.
The question I am posing. Not needing PoE of any kind, and the face i have a Nexus 3K switch with open slots in the data center, should i get just two switches for the field and take them right to the Nexus, or, get the intermediate switch so that we can more easily expand or link to it in case they want to change the configuration as they often do to me?
I would also love BRAND of switch... any recommendations. Although I have a lemonade stand budget. Anyone have a suggestion? And of course I need to be able to monitor with SolarWinds.
