Error occurred while updating the database

Currently on 12.3.1 with the virtual appliance. Trying to upgrade to 12.4.2. That itself finished without errors, but upon first logon it wanted to upgrade the database. The DB is on MSSQL 2012. It throws the error shown in the screenshot. I've googled around and searched these forums, but apparently we're special. Luckily I had a backup of the appliance or we'd be starting over apparently. Any ideas?

This happened with the 12.4.0 & 12.4.1 versions as well. I just figured I'd try again hoping something had been fixed even though it wasn't mentioned in the release notes.
