NPM APM monitor ESX Storage?

Hi guys, we are currently monitoring our ESX servers with NPM, We have had some close calls where some LUN's nearly got full and caused us a lot of problems.

Is there anyway we can monitor storage on ESX Servers, e.g. LUN's attached.

This is very important.

Any advice would be great. Thank you

What we do in 9.5.1 and 10.0 is the same essentially.

Orion 9.1 and 9.5 use SNMP to gather data from ESX servers, and the LUNs are not exposed in SNMP (so a universal device poller won't work).. We plan to add this functionality in the future, which will require pulling data from VMware's proprietary API.

I've been playing around using the VIPerlToolKit to report on datastore usage (can be downloaded from sourceforge, and used with activeperl). The following script expects 3-4 parameters, Server Username Password DataStoreName Index (optional, starts at 0). You can specify the datastore via the name, or via the index (but you have to put in a dummy name). I'm calling it via APM Windows Script poller....

Profiler will monitor and alert on both datastore and virtual disk usage, so it covers both the virtual infrastructure and the VM.

We had a customer recently that changed their snapshot policy and started to rapidly run out of datastore space. Profiler started sending alerts and helped avert a disaster.
