alert on stopped but not disabled windows services

Hi All,

we have several servers containing the same windows services.

some of the services are not running on all of the servers and are set to "Disabled" instead of "Manual".

i'm looking for a way to alert when a "Manual" service is not running.

for example:

if service A is not running and it is not set for disabled > create an alert.

(Get-Service 'wuauserv').StartType

(Get-Service 'wuauserv').Status

After some digging, i've found this fromalexslv

He's created a good template based on a VBscript.

It checks that all your automatic services are running.

You can tailor this to meets your needs by changing the following:

If StrComp(objItem.State,"Running") <> 0 Then

If StrComp(objItem.StartMode,"Manual") = 0 Then

it will check if a service is not running, and if it is it will skip, then check if it's set to manual.

If the manual service is not running, then it will set the statistic to critical(1).

You can base your alerts on this SAM monitor.

I don't think there is a way to do this without setting up a SAM monitor.
