Okay, i've reached that part of the project where a customer asks about "On Call notifications" via SMS.
I have had this question a few times before but normally the company has some sort of plan for how they want the notifications to be sent/received and then handled.
This customer doesn't have a clue. The company does not currently offer on call and as we are working with healthcare providers who have now demanded that this company offer oncall.
I've been told they want sms messages sent to an on call android handset.
I've recommended using a third party SMS service that alerts can be sent to or notepager pro. A resulting sms message will be sent out to the on call handset.
Does anyone have a standard procedure for this kind of thing? I can knock a procedure together but it would be good if someone already has a doc that gets me to where I need to be.
I think they have agreed a silly SLA of twenty minutes response time too...
Things they have asked me to consider :
- Encryption.
- Alert timetable.
- Engineers response.
- configuring the handset for notifications.
Would you even bother with SMS? any help is appreciated?
