Web-Based report editing in Report Writer

Hey All,

I am wondering if it is possible to edit a web based report i built in report writer? I want to be able to see the query so that i can build my own report and possibly get all of the information I'm looking for it's one table instead of having 3 of them. I'm currently using some older 2008 R2 server and will be moving to 2016 and 2016 SQL shortly. If this feature isn't available in the 2008 version is it available in the 2016 versions?

I'm trying to build a report that will show all of the following:

Node Name

Node IP

IOS Image

IOS Version

Stack Members by Model: IE if i have a stack of 3750g and 3750x's i want to know how many of each

Free RAM

NVRAM Size

NVRAM Used

Total Memory

Memory Space available for a new image

Hi skreezanx you can only view Report-Writer reports from within the Orion UI, but you can try to re-create them. If you were to head into Report Writer and check the SQL used to form the existing report then you could potentially come back and use that code to build a new report within the Web Reporter.

Within Report Writer open the report in question, and then from the top menu bar select Report > Show SQL. This will give you a SQL tab in Design Mode which you can then copy and paste so that you can edit it to your liking and use it to build a new report.

Some of the details you want in your report are spread across multiple tables in the DB so you will need to do some JOIN statements to link them up.

Hey David,

I'm actually trying to go the other way. I'd like to view the SQL of the web based report I created in Report Writer. I created one in the web GUI that i want to see the Code for within report writer but I can't find the report I created in the folder structure.

Sorry, I misunderstood. SolarWinds have moved to the Web Reporter as the default tool now, and whilst the Report Writer is still supported (and rightly so as it still has some good use) the reports created in Web UI are not automatically copied to the Report Writer application they are stored in the SQL DB as XML - You would need to look in your DB pull out the XML and parse through it to find the SQL within.

In my lab it definitely needs some cleanup but I'd leave that up to you to make those judgement calls since you probably have a completely different set of devices.
