Acknowledge alert link in email

Hi,

I think I read somewhere that it is now natively possible to send a link within an alert that would acknowledge that alert...

Was I halucinating or is this possible now? and if so, how?

would love to acknowledge via blackberry without having to change the system.

ahhh, yea.. that was where I read it :P

I knew I read it but wasnt interested as I knew we were not going to make the website available over a public IP but when I heard that blackberries can browse intranet websites because they access the websites over the blackberry server it reminded me of this feature...

will you need to log in to acknowledge the alert?

it would be nice for us to be able to acknowledge alerts via our blackberries.

anyhow, I am guessing that version is still ~4months away :P

Yes, Bshopp is correct - ${AcknowledgeURL} is now availble.

I would love to change the text is shows.. When I add it to my alerts, I get an very unprofessional looking "to ack this alert click here".

Would be thoughtful of the devs to allow us to edit the link text.. or did I miss something?

it doesn't put the domain name on the url.

Is there a way to do this.

The name come across as http://schsw:8080/orion

i'm looking for it to say http://solarwinds.test.com:8080/orion

they is no way my phone can get to this domain with out this.

I have open a port on the firewall to acknowlwdge the alerts, this was to help out all of our teams to the acknowledge the alerts faster. but its not helping and now i have to turn the port off again until it gets fix

I belive there is a table in the DB called websites where you can change the servername that is used in the acknowledgement email.

So i tried you ${AcknowledgeURL} and I am very disappointed. Its a URL to the webpage have fun with that on your phone. I have been forced to forward our alerts to our other alarming system that supports a blind reply to ACK escalation.

With all the wonderful things Orion can do and i am shocked it doesn't have a real reply to ACK system.

I'm sure many more than me would love a mobile friendly ACK system.

I believe a year ago or so they released a new variable/macro with the acknowledge-id so you can create your own link.

I just recently switched to a different company which do not own Orion -yet-, so I cannot look it up but I am sure you'll find it if you look for it in the section where you insert macros/variables.

The variable is ${AcknowledgeURL} and it can be found under the "General" group of variables when you are creating an alert action.

This URL leads to:

http://yourserver/Orion/netperfmon/AckAlert.aspx?AlertDefID=<long-@ss-hex-key>:1:APM:+Component&viaEmail=True

where does it pull the URL/server from (11.5.2) now? used to be webservers/primary so you could change name to be load balanced URL, and just had to do this every time ran config wiz. (still have to for reports/jobs)

Now is it [the macro] pulling from allEngines table....it doesn't even grab FQDN...so link is useless in many cases..

I need to be able to set that to my DNS loadbalanced addr. You can set the text on "polling settings" page but not the "server" name.

Honestly, except in smaller installations where the primary poller was the web server, I always constructed my URL variables in the alert messages anyway. ie:

"http://MyHappyDNSName/Orion/blahblahblah/N:=${NodeID}"

So in this case it would be

http://yourserver/Orion/netperfmon/AckAlert.aspx?AlertDefID=‌${AlertDefID}:1:APM:+Component&viaEmail=True

(or some variation on that. I'm going off the top of my head). YMMV, caveate script-or.

yea, I had done that as well until they fixed that link where it would translate properly to the text you set on that admin page, but then this changed. argggg! thanks

Side question/not to hijack but I was planning on an F5 in front of several Orion web servers. Should I plan to rewrite all my alerts to use a custom URL vs detailsURL?

I found the alert ack variable, but when i use it it points me to a different port, any idea how to fix that? i've been digging around the database management and checked on the Websites under netperfmon tab and didn't find where i can edit that record
