Which values for commands can be used when modifying a device template?

Hi,

I'm trying to modify a device template and got a couple of questions that seems not to be answered by the NCM Documentation or in the forum. When a command got the value *, does NCM think that * is any value or NCM looks for the * value,i.e. <Command Name="VirtualPrompt" Value"*"/>? and whether value="$"?

My experience so far is that NCM doesn't like the * value and when a $ sign is in the template it should be followed by a variable name between curly brackets but I would like to confirm it.

If they are special values, is it possible to "escape" them son NCM see the correct value?

Can you explain exactly what you're trying to accomplish with the * in the device template?

The device I'm logging change the prompt when checking the confiigurations. The "line" prompt is *, when you go into the "configuration mode" the prompt change to $.

I'm able to log in the device when I set the VirtualEnablePrompt to value equal to *. However, I cannot download the configuration of the device as the prompt change to $. I am trying to use Precommands with RegEx equal to * or $, but in a regular expression * is any value and it seems NCM does recognize the command (as far as i understand from the trace files).

Now, it seems i'm trying to things. First, it's to know how to find * for a RegEx. Will <Command Name="PreCommand" Value="${CRLF}" RegEx="*"/> work? or <Command Name="PreCommand" Value="${CRLF}" RegEx="$"/>?

Second, Why <Command Name="PreCommand" Value="$"/> doesn't work? Is $ not allow alone?

Can you post the session trace for the device? Enable session tracing by going to File > Settings > Session Tracing. Then, attempt to download and post the resulting trace found in <install dir>\SolarWindsConfiguration Management\Session-Trace directory.

...this question made me realise where I've been going wrong, trying to get NCM to recognize the prompt from my Vyatta boxes, the $ symbol causes all kinds of issues!

Simply using "VirtualPrompt" and "~" in my template made all the difference, FOUR DAYS OF STRUGGLE!!!!! soooooo pleased right now
