Task reminder as an Alert

We currently have other systems that create alerts in thier own application to remind our operators to perform certain tasks. Those systems and applications will soon be removed from our environment. We are trying to see if Advanced Alerting Manager can create an alert in NPM/SAM to do the same, just remind the operators of tasks to perform. Such a simple request, but it seems quite difficult to do. I've stated put a reminder in outlook but that isn't sufficient enough for the customer's requesting the tasks. Any suggestions would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!

Are the tasks specific to a node or set of nodes in your NPM inventory?

No, some possibly, but have no connection with a trigger of up or down.

Then SolarWinds seems like the wrong place to put something like that. If you can't correlate these events to a device in the inventory it would be awkward. There's an advanced SQL alert option but ultimately it keys on a device when the alert fires. If you absolutely must do this in SolarWinds you could create a "fake" node of type 'external' and then you could write your alerts against that.

For example,

Node Name equal to Fake Node Name Here

[insert other conditions here]

Wouldn't it be just as easy/arbitrary to write a script to email folks and then schedule it in Scheduled Tasks somewhere?

I completely agree with you. In fact, I don't see why we can't just set up an outlook calendar reminder. Thanks for the input, just trying to please our cutsomers.
