Network Devices vs Computers

Question

I am wondering how everyone is managing their Network Devices within Service desk. At the moment we are researching moving them into the computer section to have more options and flexibility. I know Orion is pulling our network device information from the subnet discovery but we would like to have them in the computer section. Is this possible? Is this recommended? How are you guys managing your network assets?

Much appreciated. That's what i was thinking to keep them where they naturally want to live. I'll post back what we decide to do and how it goes.

Hi Patrick, I’d keep actual network equipment under Network Devices. SWSD uses the device type to determine which asset list it appears in, so switches, routers, firewalls, and similar devices are expected to live there. That view is customizable, and you can use tags and available asset fields to add the organization you need.

You can change the type to Computer, but SWSD notes that some information may be lost and the move is irreversible. I’d only do that if the device was classified incorrectly, not simply to get more flexibility. The Network Devices documentation has the details.
