Ever feel like you’re spending more time navigating dashboards, jumping between metrics, logs, and traces, and scanning a wall of alerts to figure out what matters?
Now imagine if, instead of navigating dashboards and writing queries, you could simply ask your observability platform a question in natural language. That’s exactly the idea behind the SolarWinds AI Agent in SolarWinds Observability SaaS, bringing natural language interaction and AI-powered insights directly into your observability workflow. The SolarWinds AI Agent (Preview) in SolarWinds Observability SaaS [P.1] is here to make that a little easier.
Here you go—introducing the AI Agent in SolarWinds Observability SaaS (Preview). It’s currently in preview, meaning we are still early in the journey and the capability is continuing to evolve. We intend to improve it with every update and release in 2026 and beyond.
How to access the AI Agent in SolarWinds Observability SaaS
Once the feature is enabled in your SolarWinds Observability SaaS tenant, the AI Agent is available directly in the UI:
- Look for the AI icon or assistant entry point in the top right of the observability interface
- Click the icon (
) to open the AI panel and start asking questions in natural language
Because this feature is delivered as part of the SaaS offering, there is no separate on‑premises connector or agent to install on your own infrastructure just to use the AI Agent in SaaS. Connection and data handling are managed within the SolarWinds Observability SaaS platform.
What the SolarWinds AI Agent can do (scope of preview)
Observability and current state insights
The AI Agent is designed to answer questions about the current state of your environment, with a strong focus on:
- Entities: Health, status, and top resource consumers
- Metrics: Capacity, utilization, and thresholds
- Active alerts: Severity, affected entities, and recent activity
What the AI Agent does not do (yet) – Preview Limitations
The current AI Agent behaviour is intentionally constrained. Based on the published preview guidance for the feature, keep these limitations in mind for now. We will continue adding capabilities and expanding the scope of data and functionality throughout the preview.
- The scope of available data is limited. The AI Agent primarily focuses on the current state of the system and can report on entities, attributes, and active alerts; access to additional data domains may be limited or unavailable, especially while the broader AI Agent feature set continues to evolve
- AI Agent provides read-only insights. It is designed to deliver observational insights rather than automation; the AI Agent does not modify configurations, run scripts, or perform remediation actions, and it does not conduct investigations or deep root cause analysis
- Responses depend on the quality of your data. The AI Agent’s answers reflect the monitored data and configuration present in your environment; if data is missing, outdated, or misconfigured, the responses may reflect those gaps
- Generative AI limitations may apply. As with many generative AI technologies, some responses may be incomplete or imprecise; always validate critical guidance before making production changes
Example prompts to get the AI Agent to kick in
- What are the critical alerts active on my service?
- Can you list all the websites I am monitoring?
- How many databases are in an unhealthy state?
- Why is the health of this service poor?
Data use and privacy
- The AI Agent works against your organization’s monitored data in SolarWinds Observability to provide context-aware answers about your environment
- SolarWinds does not use customer data to train the underlying models, which helps protect the privacy and uniqueness of your environment
