Area: Dashboard Widgets → Presentation Tab
Description:
In the Modern Dashboard, when configuring a widget under the Presentation tab, there is an option to specify a Widget Link URL (optional). Currently, when a URL is added and the user clicks “Explore this data”, the link opens in the same browser window.
For usability and navigation purposes, especially when dashboards are actively monitored, it would be beneficial to have the option to open this link in a new browser window or tab.
Proposed Enhancement:
Add a radio button or checkbox option in the Presentation tab, for example:
- ⦿ Open link in same window (default)
- ⦿ Open link in new window/tab
Benefits:
- Prevents users from losing their current dashboard view
- Improves workflow when dashboards are used for real-time monitoring
- Aligns with common UI/UX behavior for external or reference links
When the “Open link in new window/tab” option is selected, clicking “Explore this data” should open the configured Widget Link URL in a new browser tab or window.
