thwack Monthly Mission - August 2015

Coming off of SolarWinds' annual virtual learning event, thwackCamp 2015 provided thousands of attendees with several deep-dive, best practice and how-to sessions on a number of topics regarding SolarWinds products and IT management in general. With over 9 hours of streaming video and live chat, there was a ton of information to consume so our Head Geeks have consolidated some of their favorite moments and in what better fashion than a monthly mission contest?!

August Mission

That's right folks, it's time for thwackCamp: The Mission. Each day we will release a new question which can be answered by watching one of the featured thwackCamp sessions. Correctly answer all 5 questions in a given week and you'll be entered to win the weekly prize. Correctly answer all 20 questions before August 30th and you'll be entered to win ONE OF TWO grand prizes: a Two-wheel Smart Scooter! Follow the rules and schedule below to play along.

Mission Rules

A new question will open every day (Monday - Friday) starting on August 3rd.
Once a question has opened, it will remain open until August 30th @ 11:59pm CST. Check the schedule below for exact open/close times.
Questions are a mixture of multiple choice and fill-in-the-blank.
- Multiple choice - Only your first attempt counts. Double check your answers!
- Fill-in-the-blank - If you answer correctly, the page will take you on to enter your thwack username. If you answer incorrectly, the page will simply refresh for you to try again.
Answer all 5 questions within a given week and be entered to win a that week's prize. For example, if you correctly answer all 5 questions during week 1 (August 3 - 7) then your name will be in the week 1 drawing.
- Week 1 - Amazon Echo‌ - Drawing on August 10th
- Week 2 - Sooallo Maglev Bluetooth Speaker‌ - Drawing on August 17th
- Week 3 - Instant Lab Universal‌ - Drawing on August 24th
- Week 4 - GoPro Hero4 Black‌ - Drawing on August 31st
Answer all 20 questions over the course of the month to be entered to win ONE OF TWO grand prizes: a Two-wheel Smart Scooter!
- Drawing will be held on August 31st.
150 points are being awarded for each correctly answered question. There are 20 questions which means you can earn a maximum of 3,000 points for this mission.
- Points/badges will be added to profiles once the mission has closed.

All questions open at 12AM CDT on their respective day.

Once a question has opened it will remain open until August 30th @ 11:59PM CDT.

And yes, you'll have to recap the videos but there's so much goodness and (actually) entertaining! Seriously, I watched these again via mirroring on the living room TV this weekend. Plus there's some pretty sweet prizes.

For the first question, which video is supposed to be viewed? The YouTube playlist seems to be more than 5 hours of material. I feel guilty halfway paying attention to a five minute video at wortk, but unless someone can narrow down which of the 30 minute+ videos pertains to question one, it may not happen.

It's the opening keynote. As a general rule, the hint link will send you directly to the video you need to watch on thwack.

Except for the questions about the keynote, which actually start by saying opening keynote.

Hope this makes sense.

Watching the YouTube videos with captions enabled is hilarious. Especially if you're reading more than listening. Believe I saw 'Solomon' instead of SolarWinds. Just one of many Easter eggs in the captions. I want so badly to share what the captions said for the answer. I guess it was kind of a homonym, if three words that sound like one other word can be a homonym.

Does anyone really watch 40 minute videos with their full attention? Or do you skip to the part that you think answers the question, if you can even find it, and then make an educated guess? This would be a good thwack poll.

I expect my employer wouldn't find it a good use of my time, and my lunch hour tends to get used for reviewing IT topics that interest me (nerdly websites--but not SolarWinds/ thwack).

I found the answer after enough fast-forwarding through the talking and watching mainly the ones where the web interface was shown.

I'll give a hint for those fans of Big Bang Theory, remember the episode where Howard and Raj are trying to figure out why Sheldon disappears every day into a basement room and when they finally get in the room all they find is a number written on the board? Reverse the digits in that number... :-)
