Add Global Agent Setting to Default to ICMP

We want to be able to default our status polling on the agents to ICMP. Obviously, right now we can do this individually via list resources, but we would like to set a global default. ICMP response time is so much faster, and the status is more reliable in our environment.

I'm having the same issue - when an agent cannot connect, the node's status shows down. However, the node responds to PING. Therefore, I want to change the status polling in bulk. Have you discovered a method to apply this setting in bulk?

This can be done with an update statement in the SQL database. The table in question is Pollers. Be wary! Make sure you back up your database before making any changes in your database. To find the pollers that need to be changed, you will need to use a query such as this:

select * from Pollers where NetObjectID in (select NodeID from Nodes where ObjectSubType = Agent)

and NetObjectType = 'N'

The important pollers to change the Enabled value for are

N.Status.Agent.Native

N.Status.ICMP.Native

N.ResponseTime.Agent.Native

N.ResponseTime.ICMP.Native

Make sure you set the ICMP pollers to Enable = 0 when you set the Agent pollers to Enabled = 1
