Global variables that are accessible across Solarwinds applications

Request the addition of application-wide variables, aka Global Variables that can be reference in the Solarwinds CORE application or any modules. They would be simple key/value pairs with some metadata such as date created , date modified, the user who last modified the variable. The use case the prompted my suggestion was creating alerts with commonly used values that may need to be updated in mass. For example, contact information, URL's, etc that are not unique to a node or volume but instead have a global scope.

ikomrad Would you be able to accomplish this using group custom properties?

Ex. Create "vendor" custom properties for node, interface, application, etc.. Then create a new custom property for a group, called "phone" (because I'm super original...). Then create a new "Vendors" group with a dynamic query that selects all elements with the value of "vendorA" (again my example values are super original, and very creative...). Now you can edit the group, and assign the phone number, which can be queried to be shown with the group members.

Or, did I, perhaps, completely misunderstand?

Here is a Solution to the global variable:

If you can pick a node that is the 'holder' of global variables, this will work. For instance you could you use your solarwinds server itself -- in this example lets make it have nodeID = 1234 and lets say you have a custom property named:meaningful_global_variable

In what ever process you have that sets the variable, just set the property to the value want for the node 1234. (I use a process to differentiate which data center is the current 'hot site')

Here is how to use it in alerts. (using this method I only escalate alerts for 'hot site' nodes and put in low urgency response tickets for 'cold site' alerts)

${SQL: SELECT meaningful_global_variable FROM dbo.NodesCustomProperties WHERE NodeID = '1234'} - this does NOT work in trigger conditions, but does work in email body

${N=SWQL;M=SELECT I.CustomProperties.meaningful_global_variable FROM Orion.Nodes I WHERE I.NodeID = '1234'} -- This works in Trigger conditions and email body

+100, please: The example I would like to use is for the on-call e-mail address. I have custom properties for Groups and Nodes, but nothing we can set system wide. I know the official answer is Ops Genie since Alert Central was sunset.

Perhaps a separate table added to the Orion DB and we could use kDavidson's method above. Has anyone tried that?
