I would like to see a separate section for software asset. Having both hardware and software is confusing. This is the only thing stopping me from buying at the moment!
Yes, yes and double yes. Fantasic idea. If I could vote twice I would. Having software assets that can be linked to hardware assets would be brilliant.
Everything else about the software is great - if we could have this, I'd buy it instantly!
I would also like software as an asset to be tracked separately. Ideally, you should be able to assign software to either a Client or a Desktop. Sometimes licenses are done one way and sometimes the other.
agreed great Idea. This is one of the things System Center Service Manager does very nicely.
Agreed. Would be beneficial
Interesting notion of "Software as an Asset".
Can you elaborate a bit more on your thoughts on this and ideas on tracking?
Today, we used the fixed asset part of WHD to track specialty licensed
products such as Adobe Creative Cloud Subscriptions, Webex accounts,
Microsoft MSDN accounts, etc... Part of the reason is so the assigned
assets appear on our corporate phone directory under the assigned asset
listings. this allows Human Resources, Marketing, etc.. the ability to see
what an employee has assigned, especially when a termination is taking
place. On terminations, we have an interface that auto-opens a ticket for
the termination, which spawns a process for us to remove the software
subscriptions from being accessed by the terminated employee.
In this scenario, the software asset is assigned to the user, but with a
software asset system,we could assign the software to the machine as a
child asset. The system works "as is" today, but looking for a more
streamlined approach

Software license management seems to be my primary missing component compared to my old help desk. I'd even like to see some documentation on how Web Help Desk would recommend trying to keep track of software with the current system. Child assets can belong to only one parent, so if I have say 100 Office licenses, do I need to create an asset for each one to assign them to PCs?
