In many environments, monitoring devices one by one isn’t enough. What we really need is a business service–level view that shows how applications, middleware, databases, servers, and the underlying network are connected, and how healthy they are as a whole.
SolarWinds already provides Orion Maps and PerfStack for correlation, but these are still more device or metric centric. A true business service topology would make it possible to:
- Group multiple components into a single “service” and visualize their relationships.
- See an overall service health score based on the status of its components.
- Drill down from service health → affected layer → specific device or application.
- Use dependency awareness, so one failing element doesn’t trigger noise across the entire service map.
