Hi Everyone,
My Request:
When ESXi host changes status, VMAN should read whole alert message from vCenter (or maybe some additional parameters), and at least represent it by appropriate state description (like 'Alert forwarded from vCenter', or full message from vCenter).
- The state of ESXi host - caused by alert read from vCenter - should be distinct from "normal' states, to enable specific alerts for this kind of situations.
- Changing ESXi node state - should be noted in event log, with description of the cause.
- It would be also useful to make up special property for ESXi nodes, like 'vCenter host alert' - with complete information polled from vCenter about alert concerning particular host.
Explanation of the need:
As for now Virtualization Manager is reading state of particular ESXi host from vCenter, but:
- Alert from vCenter is causing only state change of the ESXi node (in our case - 'warning' state).
- There is absolutely no information about the root cause of the 'warning' state.
- We were looking for it throughout whole HCO database - there is no sign in the system what caused switching to 'warning' state.
For vmWare admins, trying to use VMAN as primary source of knowledge about their system, it's very confusing...
Example alert in vCenter (red arrows pointing to host state, red underlined - alert message):

And in VMAN we receive only 'Warning' state (no other information at all):
