Ability to populate a group with a dynamic query based on IP address ranges and subnets

I would like to build a group and have it populated with systems that meet a specific IP address range or specified subnet.

Example:

Baltimore nodes group = (Dynamic Query) All nodes on 172.30.33.0/22 subnet

All nodes starting with 172.30.33.1 thru 172.30.33.250

Surely this can't be too hard to implement and would be useful for many needing to group systems by IP.

You can do this already with Dynamic Queries, but I will admit defining a range is hard to do.

How it's currently done:

Object | is | Node

IP address | begins with | 172.30.33. <-- you have to leave off the last octet

Having the slash notation would be awesome:

Object | is | Node

IP address | is | 172.30.33.0/22

For ranges something like this:

Object | is | Node

IP address | is Range | 172.30.33.0 - 172.30.33.250

The problem Terrance, is that leaving that last octet off doesn’t account

for ranges that pass the value of the third octet. Also, even if that

doesn’t happen to matter, you can’t add more than one range to a group

because each condition is and “AND” query parameter not an “OR” parameter.

All fields in the dynamic query system seem to do text compares even in the

IP address fields. Until a numeric analysis is done, truly identifying

systems by IP range is not possible.

Hi,

This would be immensely helpful. We would be able to have dynamic group memberships for certain IP blocks. It's a real pain to try and set up a dynamic query for /19 networks

We need this for SAM as well. Strange that the fields exist for discovery but not for groups.

This would be really useful, and hopefully not too difficult to implement. We have quite a number of sites that have small office blocks with /25 or even /26 subnets to optimise IP usage that are a real pain to try and group.
