Currently, API Pollers in only allow threshold violations based on numeric values in a single poll. This limits the flexibility compared to what we see in Server and Application Monitor (SAM), which offers the ability to set thresholds based on both numeric values and the number of polls (e.g., “x consecutive polls” or “x out of y polls”).
We’re requesting that the same threshold duration options be added to API Pollers.
Why This Matters:
By enabling thresholds like "x consecutive polls" or "x out of y polls," users can:
- Reduce False Alerts: Thresholds would only trigger after sustained issues, not one-off anomalies.
- Increase Monitoring Flexibility: Tailor checks to match real-world behavior of services or APIs.
- Reduce the Number of Alerts: Duration thresholds can show on the API Monitor level and not have to be built into creating more alerts.
Example Use Case:
- A database sync connection check can be down for up to 30 minutes at a time, and only trigger an alert if it’s exceeded for 3 out of 5 consecutive polls, not just a single poll.
Adding this functionality would bring API Pollers in line with the more flexible threshold configuration available in SAM, ensuring feature parity across the platform.
