Using a variety of ports and allowing us to group a single application for organizing the polling would greatly help. Instead of just naming it tcp-connect port etc, we should be able to name the application. We should also be allowed to group different types of monitoring as a single Application.
Adding templates and mix and match combinations to speed up deployment of custom monitoring would help greatly.
