How To Create Advanced Alert Based On Time Difference

Hi All SolarWinds Gurus,

I am stuck at trying to find out how to create a rule which would include "NOW" variable. Basically I have a Custom Field defined as DATE type and I need to check whether date is in the past or in the future. For me to be able to do this I simply need to do something like:

Trigger alert when "Custom_Date" is less than "Now"

any thoughts on how to achieve this?

P.S.

If you select "Polling Engines" as Type of Property to Monitor you will then be able to create some rules which would include "Now" variable (see below). But those are kind of hard coded formulas already, whereas I am looking for just "Now" on its own to be able to compare it to my custom field value

OK, I think I can answer my own question. It is not exactly what I was looking for, but it is pretty close and it does the job I wanted:

To compare dates all you need is to compare DATE field to LAST SYNC, which you can find under "Polling Details" section

Add complex condition:

field "Custom_Date" is less than "Last Sync"

If the above is TRUE - Custom_Date is in the past, if it is FALSE - Custom_Date is in the future.

P.S. There is at least one 'got-cha' which you may need to consider: If node is unmanaged, then LAST SYNC is not equal to NOW. I have tested and it turned out that for unmanaged nodes LAST SYNC is equal to 23:59 of the previous day... I guess this is by design how SolarWinds works. In my setup this is not an issue, as I am filtering out all Unmanaged nodes anyway, so, the above will work for me just fine. [RESOLVED]
