IPAM new GUI lack of features / search is broken

So 2025.2 forces the new IPAM GUI without a way to switch back the older more functional GUI. The old version displayed the subnet description and the subnet, now it only displays the subnet name. We need both fields and to be able to customize the left hand pane if needed. Also, the search function is broken. If you search from the top level, it will not find the subnet. You have to be in the subfolder that contains the subnet which is useless.

Does anyone know of a config file that we can modify to restore the old GUI? If not, I will have to revert to 2025.1.1.

Looks like the old web page is not even on the webservers drive. So I guess there is no way of restoring it (If you can't find the file, copy it in there and get it to work....)

Thanks for the reply. Yes, the advanced search does work, but the regular search should function the same way as the old version...

Is there a SQL query that could combine the Display Name and Description into the Display Name field (If they are not the same value)? That might help our issue…. We need to be able to see the Display Name and Description in the left hand column without hovering over each one...

I guess you wanted a SQL query that combines "Display name" and "Description" field, if they are not already combined. Have not created that yet but here is a SWQL that you can use for a "Custom Query widget" to display this info and search for the networks.

I show the same issues, regular search does not produce any results. Guess they took a page from the Microsoft updates and call it enhanced features. I'm opening a ticket to get the old GUI back as this update is worthless and not helpful at all.

Yeah, I can't believe we pay money for this. Same old same old, rush for new stuff, then change things like the GUI look, which achieves NOTHING but pissing off your existing clients & wasting Dev resources to "fix" something that isn't broken. FFS People get a grip of your testing, a simple thing like the search not working, which the second most important thing to users in IPAM is beyond excuses. I'm glad we will be ditching SW at the end of financial year. If this was new I could make allowances, but every upgrade bring more hurt than help

I opened a ticket regarding the search issue, and your response is that you can use advanced search while engineers are working to fix the issue in version 2025.2 RC2.

I don't know why they thought that was a good idea when it worked differently for years. It sure didn't make any sense. Did they say anything about restoring the missing column from the left hand pane?

Well, I also found it strange that they removed the old version and only left the new version, and that no one noticed these bugs.
No, I didn't ask them about that description column on the left side you mentioned.
We just have to wait for the patch.

I see 2025.2.1 is out. Do you think it is fixed in that version, or would it be a different version? 2025.2.1 came out on July 24th,

This new UI is garbage the old one was so much more usable. A few things I found

1. The back button doesn't work there is no way to go back to a previous view if you click the wrong thing you have to start all the way over

2. Groups aren't adhering to the correct parent group I've opened a ticket about this 01982592

3. When you've got multiple subnets under one group there is no more drop down button anymore so good luck seeing anything I've had to start exporting out the structure as a CSV to view my IP space because its unavailable in the new UI.

Please give us back the old UI this new one is awful and not ready for production. Open source free IPAM solutions do a much better job then a paid solution from a leading network monitoring company and its sad to say I feel like you guys barely put any effort into IPAM and its an after thought.

EDIT: Found more issues

4. Custom properties aren't saving you can fill it out but never saves and remains empty after creation, even going back in to the object and trying to reapply the custom property it doesn't save. I'm using a drop down list with the ability to add new selections. In this case this is a net new never used option.

5. You can't resize the columns you can only move them around, double clicking the column lines does nothing you can simply move the columns around. So long named columns are now cut off

Can you be more specific about what is being fixed? Is the regular search being returned to a global search? Does it restore the Display Name and Description on the left hand pane?

To add to this - we have an open ticket regarding Advance Search not working for us at all (and "workaround" currently requested works intermittently).

Issue - go to Advanced Search - plug in IP Address in search field and select "Include historical results" - spins and errors out (error dialog top right).

Opened ticket and response back was to deselect any Custom Properties selected in the "Select columns to include in search".

Did that (we had 1 CP and that was selected).

Same result.

Noticed that the "Columns to include in display" also had the CP selected - deselected that.

Tried again - now it works - get results displayed includinh historical.

But - it seems it only works once. Try again (same or other IP in search box) and it errors. Found that you have to exist Advanced search and re-enter and it will then work - but only once.

In testing, tracking issue - deleted the CP altogether, confirmed it no longer appearing as option in "Select columns to include in search". and tried historical search again.

Now it never works (and also seems to break the "Current State" search as well - error - red dialog box,

Interestingly when I select the "Columns to include in display" the (deleted) CP is listed there (and stubbornly stays selected when entering advanced search - I deselect OK but when I exit and re-enter Advanced Search it's selected again).

Deselect the CP (deleted) in Columns to display = fail - error.

Added back the CP and accessed Advanced Search - deselected in both options and it works again - only once still.

So for us - advanced search is broken,

As others have said - the changes to IPAM I don't think were well thought through and not tested enough.

Would be more than happy to return to the "old" interface.

We don't see to learn anything here (and not listening to the users of the platform) - most of these "upgraded"/"Improvements" to the UI etc. in the past are the same - i.e. Manage Entities instead of Manage Nodes (at least the option here allows you to retain the "old" Manage Node) - not an improvement and I bet if you polled SolarWinds users you will find the majority using Manage Nodes as it functionally better, intuitively better and a lot easer (particularly for someone new to SolarWinds) to work out how to navigate and customise the whole thing to easily see exactly what you want.

Has anyone experienced problems with editing DHCP servers once added?

The window pops up but never loads fully and shows greyed out. We're seeing this with one of our customers and currently have a support case open.

I have another problem: when I export subnets, it only exports the structure, i.e., the segment, but I can't export all the IP addresses. Do you also have this problem?

Just tried on 2025.2.1 and it seems to work just fine. Tried to "Export all", not just the structure, and you get a zip file with one excel/csv with the structure and a folder with an excel/csv per subnet with all individual IP's.

I agree with everything you are saying here. They officially broke IPAM. Having to hover over a network to see the description is a pain. The advanced search is a pain in the butt. It is even hard to see where you are in the tree, the highlighting is so subtle.

Its like they gave some art student responsibility to make it all modern looking, not a network engineer, or maybe an ex Apple UI developer.

What's new?

When you are in a subnet and edit an IP and save, it takes you back to the first page of IP addresses. Pain the neck if you are working on IPs at the end of the range. Yes you can filter on a specific IP with the subnet. But if you want to look around what is using what and update a records, it is very un-useful.

This is unbelievable. It's why I wanted to put IPAM on a separate server from the rest of my install - I knew this would happen.

SW - your IPAM needs a LOT of work. I have to write python scripts to create multiple supernets (for some reason you have a subnet creation wizard but not supernet creation wizard)?

Your sorting by Supernet first? WHAT? This has been this way since the beginning, and it's never made sense.

I can't search for a subnet / supernet name or description STILL?! I've had to create my own web pages, querying the database to augment your lack of search.

I have a dozen python scripts to do things that should be simple, basic things built in. And now this... this interface. What hot garbage.

Give us back the option for the old interface. Please. I don't want to migrate to a new tool.

For reference, this was related to an orphaned DHCP Server in the database, once it was removed the dialogue window opened fine.
