Servicenow integration with Solarwinds via Soalrwinds API for ServiceNow CMDB update

Hi,

we are trying to achieve the above and we have been told that there's an API available on solarwinds by default. apparently the URL/path is the following :

https://a.b.c.d:17778/SolarWinds/InformationService/v3/Json/Query"

I can see that our solarwinds server is listening on port "17778"

netstat | find "17778"
TCP a.b.c.d:17778 x.y.z.e:33005 ESTABLISHED

however, when servicenow team try to connect (using Service Graph Connector) they get error 404. I have no idea what to check from the solarwinds to see whether the API is configured and up and running?

Could one of you please help?

Port 17778 is deprecated in the latest versions of Solarwinds for API access. Use port 17774 instead.

I have this integration working in my environment, using a local Solarwinds user with limited rights. If you get certificate errors (untrusted certificate), you may need to skip certificate checking in ServiceNOW integration.

Were you checking with netstat? Version 2025.1.1 definitely uses 17774 and it should be running automatically, no special configuration needed, unless for some reason you have REST endpoint on 17774 disabled in Advanced Configuration (/Orion/Admin/AdvancedConfiguration/Global.aspx, DisableSwisRestEndpointOnPort17774)

Check the Certificate on the SolarWinds server is valid for the domain and make sure you are using the FQDN.

thanks for your swift response. the SSL cert on Solarwinds is expired however, the solarwinds server is behind a reverse proxy that performs SSL auth for the clients. having said that when we bypass the riverse proxy we still get the same error. Also, we are using IP address instead of hsotname.

also, since the error is 404, are you sure it will be related to a ssl cert?

What account are you using for this integration ? I understand the URL - but what sort of account did you create on SolarWinds for API Access (is it an Orion Local Account or something else) ?

Are you allowing connections from external IP's to your SolarWinds ?

I am using an orion local account with full.permissions for now. I have checked and I can login to normal web portal via this account.

sorry what do you mean by allowing extended IPs? if you mean windows firewall? if so, that has been disabled already

hi Maciej,

I don't see any service running using tcp17774 but do see that tcp/17778 service running. the version we are using is 2025.1.1.

do.i need.to install any thing or running for this service to start working? and yes I agree it's not ssl related.

I have a look as suggested and here are the settings:

it is slightly confusing so not sure whether this should be checked or need to leave it unchecked for it to work?

also, I did checked this box and then restarted the services after that I checked netstat but still couldn't see it listening on port tcp/17774

actually I played around with tcp/17774 and looks like it started working. thank you for your help. it's highly appreciated.
