Group-specific Orion Maps?

Hi all,

I have a created a couple of Orion Maps, and I'd like to be able to access them from a Group. 

For example, I have a group containing relevant nodes and interfaces for a specific service, and I'd like to include our topology/design map within the group for easy access. I'm aware there's a navigation item on the left: 'Map', but this just shows the elements in the group, not very useful.

Is there a way I can add our specific map to this group so we don't have to navigate between Groups and Maps?

I've read about the somewhat hacky solution involving Network Atlas and matching the map name with the group name, but we've built our maps using the new Orion Maps.

Any help/advice is much appreciated!

It's not hacky, and to abuse a Star Wars quote, then: "This is the way". We have well North of 1000 maps on our primary instance, and the only way to make them useful is to link them to the group name.

The process is straightforward.

• Add the relevant map widget to the page template of choice e.g. Group Info
• Once done you get a blank widget
  • Then for NA you then click edit top right of the empty widget and in the settings section change "Map name format:" to ${Name} in the dropdown.
  • For an Orion (or intelligent) Map, again click edit in top right and you'll find the same setting about halfway down, only it's now labelled "Map name format (optional)"

When you save your maps, just be very sure that the names of the maps precisely match the group name. As an example group name:  ABC is not the same as ABc - in other words, spaces, capitalisation, etc all must match. 

As an FYI, as not sure what version you are running, there was a bug in the late 2023.x, early 2024.x releases where the map name format box disappeared for Orion Maps.
