Polling Server for high latency situation?

Greetings All.

I manage a Solarwinds installation based in the Continental United States.

Received a requirement to monitor a few hundred devices overseas.

Bandwidth to the overseas site not terrible but latency will run > 100 ms.

I have read somewhere that Solarwinds has a type of polling server, or perhaps a specific APE configuration, that works well in high-latency environments.  However, I can't find posts about this or other documentation.

Thanks in advance for any advice on configuring a polling server for a high latency environment.

Are these devices all network based? Server based? or a mix of network and servers?

Agents can handle high latency (500ms) and polling SNMP over the wire can also be very forgiving, well above the 100ms.

If you poll over the wire then adjusting node thresholds and alerts is the best option to account for this. I created this write up talking about that:  Modify Alerts To Be Smarter With Node Thresholds 

There is a light-weight engine called a SolarWinds Platform Collector (Previously known as an Orion Remote Collector) that uses agent technology to do some basic polling.
