Group members when added to not run applications

Greetings All.

In my current assignment I have a Solarwinds group with about 300+ servers. Group membership determined by a node custom property. The group is assigned to an application, meaning the application runs on the servers in the group.

Several of the servers in the group have issues with the Solarwinds agent (in some cases the agent was removed by mistake). I have been going through and fixing the agents (mostly through uninstalling and re-installing).

However...

Finding that several of the servers with repaired agents to not run the application in question. The servers appear in the target group, but they do not even attempt to run the application.

I know that I have seen this issue before in previous jobs. Something about remnants of the old agent still recorded in the database that prevents the new agent from triggering the application. However, I can't find the thread(s) that discuss the issue.

I welcome any inputs from the community on how to correct this issue.

Check the „entity“ that is added to the Group. If it is not a „Node“

entity, SAM assignment won’t work. Even though a VIM entity might resolve in the end to a Node, it won’t do it, because the SAM Template Group Assignment can‘t traverse the SWQL tree.

HerrDoktor - I have this same issue as the OP. Mine are WMI not agents, but otherwise the same. In my case the entities in the group are indeed Nodes, but the application template is not getting assigned to all members.

Any thoughts?

Now I guess I need to go audit all application monitors assigned via groups to see if there are more. I just accidentally discovered 1.

The assignment is not auto-assigning for client operating systems, that could be a reason why a group assigned template might not get assigned
