Solarwinds platform - lift & shift to Azure versus potential license issue

Hello,

we are going to lift&shift our current Solarwinds platform solution to the Azure. Is there any potential issue regarding the licensing, while the Solarwinds Platform server will change the IP address? Otherwise ti will be the same machine. So it is not migration to the new built machine, it is pure lift&shift with the Ip address change. Is the IP address (or the hostname) tight to the license somehow?

There isn't a license change that needs to happen. When you truly migrate to a new machine, which isn't the case here, the license store usually is corrupted and you need to re-license. With retaining the hostname you should be good. Changing the IP address of the server shouldn't matter. The DB will be updated quickly with the move.

I know a lot of our clients that have done this used this as an opportunity to use Azure SQL or Azure SQL Database managed instance. Let us know if you would like some support for this. We would be more than happy to help you out.

If not fine, the class of problem would be "SolarWinds thinks there's a separate Main box"

If you get that class of problem, the license can be reset with license manager, and the engines table can be purged of the old box. There's KBs on both. You shouldn't need that, but it's possible in the event of a bad migration
