Orion Maps - Making a widget to allow a Orion map to dynamically be linked to a Node group.

Hello there We currently have hundreds of maps made in Network Atlas for our organization and how we link them to node groups is via a widget which compares the name and if the widget finds a map with the same name as the group the map is displayed.

For example if I had a group called "Main Library" then the widget will look for any maps called "Main Library" if a map was found it would be displayed. This meant I could easily update maps as needed without worrying about linking manually.

As Network Atlas is no longer supported and we can now even start converting them since the latest 2024.2.0 build but we are holding off as manually having to link each map with it's group as we have hundreds of groups is going to be quite frankly a ballache.

I did look for something similar to how it's down on Network Atlas to no avail so i'm coming to the community which has always been a god send in helping

If I understand you correctly you are saying that you display your Network Atlas maps based on the name of the group they are in. So if you have a group called ABC and you have a map called ABC then the widget displays it? This is because when you edit the widget it shows this:

So then yes is the answer. You can also do this with Orion (aka intelligent) Maps. The feature was finally introduced in 2023.x [I forget the precise one now]. However, your current version has a bug that stops you being able to set that variable to select the map based on ABC or whatever other option you prefer.

Upgrade to 2024.2.1 and the option is back. We have found, that we had to first remove the OM widget. Reload/refresh the page and then re-add it for the option to be visible: Also, unhelpfully (IMO) the option moved from the bottom of the widget to the middle and it is easy to miss:

I also want to add, that we have 1000's of groups and maps and sadly the import tool (introduced, IIRC, in 2024.2.1 or .0) does not work.

I expect it to be a WIP as it is the first release but for us but it simply doesn't work. The first issue I spotted is that the node names appear 'under the node' and appear to be hard-coded. There is a workaround to that, but to do it for every node on 1000's is just not practical. That solution, is to select each name and delete it. You then have to go to each node and either manually enter the name or use the variable: {{{displayName}}}

Which is why I, after >2yrs of banging on about it have bitten the bullet and started converting our maps by manually re-creating them.

I would go one step further on a group page when you add a group MAP to that individual groups page it will display that same map on all the other groups regardless.

Just tried this process after upgrading to v2024.4. The widget now appears to be called "Intelligent Map" and adding it does indeed show the "Map name format" section and allows you to select an option (e.g. ${Name}). But after doing so, clicking SAVE doesn't do anything. You can click it all day long, with no effect. It only seems to work if you select a map from the bottom section, which of course defeats the whole point here.

I'm a little disappointed, but this appears to still be an issue. I guess I'll open a ticket just to confirm.
