Interface: 'vmxnet3 Ethernet Adapter Ethernet0' showing 'Displayed data is obsolete'

We have a VM interface that shows the status as UP but none of the polling statistics are being polled? error "Displayed data is obsolete" The server is using agent based polling method but i cannot determine why the widgets are showing no data? I have a support case open for months with support but its not going anywhere

I can see the stats can be polled when checking on a wmi powershell script, but the wmi polling does not work either when using an admin account with the correct permissions

any help would be great thanks

You say the agent is there, and you can manually poll via WMI. Uninstall the agent. Change over to WMI polling, do you get the interface stats? If not, delete the interface, and re-add it. If you don't get interface stats, check the other stats like disk and cou/ram to make sure they are current. If they are good, it's likely the WMI classes for the interface. If nothing works, verify your credentials, and it might be WMI in general. Either way, consider: WMI Troubleshooting - Win32 apps | Microsoft Learn

If WMI works, but the agent doesn't (and you want it back) then you know to troubleshoot that.

Thank you for your help! Tried the above and still cant see any interface stats when polling via WMI, so i think it could be issues with the WMI classes...

This made come off as "Yeah of course I checked that, duh!", but did you list resources, and find a new interface? (or anything)?
If new interface, check that, someone changed the setup
If list resources fails, agent has failed somehow, maybe reinstall or whatever

If same resources show, interesting. (Make sure it actually rescans though, if the answer pops up immediately it's cached)

Hey Adam, no problem i appreciate any replies I tried deleting the interface, then 'List resource' (not the cached list) adding the same one back into monitoring, still no joy. I've uninstalled the agent and reinstalled it as well and repeated the above to no avail.

Do you have current data for anything else on that device? (Say, the CPU chart?)

To follow up with @jm_sysadmin - Try WBEM TEST: Introduction to WBEMTEST - Configuration Manager | Microsoft Learn It can validate WMI from your polling server and give error messages to help isolate what is wonky and where. It should be on your systems by default - and you can run it on the affected system and remotely from your polling engine. This will remove solarwinds from the equation (and firewalls etc.)

Thanks for the reply. I've been working with support using WBEMTEST and I can see the wmi values, also tried running some powershell scripts like these below brings back the interface data but SolarWinds still cannot poll this data via Agent OR WMI? So the fault is in SolarWinds somewhere. Support have logs to investigate but this has been ongoing for months but i still have my fingers crossed.

yes CPU, Memory & Volumes all monitored fine via Agent, its just the interface stats

Just a quick update.

In logs: problem with deserialization from JSON. We get the result after poll Interfaces and Asset Inventory but we cannot save it because of deserialization exception.

Asset Inventory:

SolarWinds.JobEngine.WorkerProcess.JobExecutionException: SolarWinds.Newtonsoft.Json.JsonSerializationException: Cannot deserialize the current JSON object (e.g. {"name":"value"}) into type 'SolarWinds.AssetInventory.Pollers.Common.PollItemGroup' because the type requires a JSON array (e.g. [1,2,3]) to deserialize correctly.
To fix this error either change the JSON to a JSON array (e.g. [1,2,3]) or change the deserialized type so that it is a normal .NET type (e.g. not a primitive type like integer, not a collection type like an array or List<T>) that can be deserialized from a JSON object. JsonObjectAttribute can also be added to the type to force it to deserialize from a JSON object.

Myself and support dont know how to resolve this JSON deserialization error
