Hi everyone. I'm new to solarwinds and I'm working on installing a test install. Solarwinds is installed but no database was created and there is no SolarwindsDatabaseUser. The ConfigurationWizard will not run due to no SolarwindsDatabaseUser.

I'm setting up a solarwinds test environment. I tried the install and it was having issues with running. On the first install the database and user was created and the configuration wizard ran. I decided to reconfigure the VM it was running on and try it again. So I unstalled the first attempt and reinstalled it. This time the database was not created. Maybe I did not do a proper cleanup. I did not remove the ProgramData directory for Orion. Any suggestion will be helpful.

I have a suggestion but I'm pretty sure you won't like it. My personal experience with rebuilding SolarWinds components is that it's best to blow away and rebuild the whole server. It just saves time. There seem to be so many small bits and pieces leftover when you try to do it any other way. Also, the servers that I have gotten to rebuild just the SolarWinds components never seem to work right. They always seem to have more gremlins than my other servers.

Thanks. This is the feeling I was already getting. Solarwinds did a terrible job on their installers. For as much $$$ as it costs I expect much more.

@sshea The uninstall will not remove data from the previous database. If data needs to be removed, you'll want to manually delete the database or truncate the specific tables.

Start with a new server and if possible allow the installers to create the database(s) for you. Depending on the products you are setting up you may need more than one database. You or your DBA will need to create a user for the installer to use. Check the documentation and it will explain the database user requirements.
