How do I configure an alert to report on statuses shown from an Application Template?

I'm looking to set an alert for when the SQLagent.exe service goes down on one of my SQL servers.  I've set up a couple of application monitor templates where I have added a Windows Service Monitor.  The Windows Service Monitor uses WMI to look for the Net Service Name SQLSERVERAGENT.  I have also set up a similar component monitor for our servers with instances to monitor SQLAGENT.EXE.

Is there any way to set a trigger condition based on this?

These are the 2 alerts that you need. They come out of the box and may or may not be enabled.

* Alert me when a component goes down
* Alert me when a component goes into warning or critical status

You'll also see similar alerts that say Alert me when a application goes down and Alert me when a application goes into warning or critical status. These can be disabled IMO. They are redundant if the component alerts are enabled.

You'll want to edit the alert, go to the trigger actions and edit the email notifications. Make sure you add this text, mostly the alert variables ${...}. This way you can see this detail when the alert comes through.

* Application Name: ${N=SwisEntity;M=Application.ApplicationAlert.ApplicationName}
* Component Name: ${N=SwisEntity;M=ComponentAlert.ComponentName}
* Component Status: ${N=SwisEntity;M=ComponentAlert.ComponentAvailability}

This should allow you to receive alerts if any windows service, or any component comes into alarm. This may get noisy depending on how large of your infrastructure you're monitoring. If it becomes noisy you'll want to tune the alerts.
