I deal with network/infrastructure teams that are worried sleepless that they are going to lose their jobs once we go to the Cloud. I've had to reassure them that can't be farther from the truth. I have to remind them of all the work that is performed that isn't hardware based. Cloud does not equate to the end of…

I want SW to have a booth at SAPPHIRE along with the likes Microsoft, Dell, CIsco, AWS, and many others. Read my blog about last year's Sapphire here.

Sizing is key. This DevOps model is finding requestors asking for the moon and then not being satisfied, or in some cases being too lazy to debug. Instead they "hardware" their way out of the problem. Hold the line, don't give in. Demand tight requirements for sizing.

Rock Star was a surprisingly good movie and Mark rocked.

This is me right now.

Awesome mission this past month! It was fun and educational in a Solarwinds kinda way! Some follow-up's: 1. Will there be a survey? 2. And unrelated, when do we find out who won the trip to Austin for ThwackCamp?

Great article! I am highly interested on how to implement, as well as uphold, a anti-USB policy. They run rampant at my company. We need to ban them, but oddly enough the sternly worded email isn't working.

Screen Savers haven't been used in years? Wow! I must be a dinosaur... My screen saver "Pictures" gallery has 3,900+ pictures and counting. My wife and kids love watching it when it kicks in. I even have a screen saver setting for my phone which ties in to my Google Pictures (which is the back-up for my "Pictures"…

Those CloudPets, and what is happening now with them, is straight out of a Black Mirror episode. Stories like this is why I don't have an Alexa. <shiver> I was sad for the Yahoo! executive team for all of about 2 seconds, and then I reminded myself that they will be getting nice little buyouts when the Verizon deal goes…

Took the words out of my mouth. Inventory! Inventory! Inventory! Know your stuff and organize...

Good points about DR. And if I was in a less volatile environment I would push for updated documentation during the CR phase to stress its importance.

Excellent points! * Know your audience. If it is an executive, keep it real brief. If it is admins make sure you have details. * Present your message concisely, and present it early. If your audience has to figure out the message for themselves, or wait for the hook, chances are they won't read your report. * If > Then >…

I read the article about the ex-admin when it came out. I immediately thought about the risk at my company and it definitely exists. Further Facebook discussions revealed that it exists at many other companies too. As for the clown, I think I would hire it for me. Bah! I would hire 3! Why should my kids have all the fun?

I am not sure if this was covered in another thread... but when I look at my Mission badges I see 10+ of these. Is this going to be cleaned up to be just 1?

This is reminiscent of the floor under the tiles of our datacenter. No joke!

C'mon people!

Interesting data here. In a previous report on Fed trends containers were still considered fringe. However, in the overall it appears that they are gaining more attraction. I found particularly interesting the tidbit on dissonance between leadership nd staff on IT direction. I've said it a 1,000 times already folks. The…

The sooner we eliminate hardware the better I say. Granted, I know there will always be "some" hardware. But the less the better. If I have to upgrade one more firmware in my lifetime I will go bonkers. I am all in on SDN...

Similar to what the host of a provocative HBO news show likes to say, "I didn't leave the SolarWinds party. The SolarWinds party left me." Yet, I still hang around Thwack from time-to-time.

Nicely done, BTW. Good seeing you again. It's been too long.

I checked the store today. It no bueno. :-(

Did anyone ever figure this out? We want our IPAM to be able to do this as well.

This has me very concerned. I would expect an email whether I was impacted or not...

Glad I could help! :-)

Odd. I just got an alert for it. Here is the output: CSGREADSOFT02 has had a CPU usage level of 90% or more for thirty minutes or more. Please investigate. Top 10 processes at the time of the alert are: Name ProcessID CPU * eiitrp.exe 669700 26.11 % * eitran.exe 670752 15.71 % * eiitrp.exe 668864 12.09 % * wmiprvse.exe…

No, not really. But @mikesky is a wizard at SolarWinds reporting. He's whipped up some pretty creative ones in the past. The fun is in the brainstorming sessions... and then watching him self-destruct in the process, but then only to rise like the phoenix at the end.
