Ahem! Pokemon Go isn't causing serious injuries and mass stupidity, irresponsible people are causing serious injuries and demonstrating mass stupidity. See what I did there?

Interesting article. I am taking a slightly different approach. I am sacrificing functionality for streamline. I am going for the "One Pane of Glass" approach as there way too many dashboards that we have to deal with today. I am trying to pump as many KPI's into SolarWinds as possible, even at the sacrifice of missing out…

Honestly.. .I am still in a state of shock that Han Solo won so easily against some stiff competition. Going into this bracket I had my best on Picard.

Your challenges are similar to many of us. And like many, we tend to be resistant to change regardless of the fact that our behaviors may be self-destructive. It's really human nature. Level of effort required and fear of change are two key detriments. That is why your approach of implementing minor changes is a great…

Yea... I've been following the progress of the new Captain Marvel film and how the trolls are attacking it ahead of its release. Sad and pointless. I have always taken online reviews with a grain of salt. I do my best to look for patterns across multiple reviews both positive and negative, to take into consideration. Those…

It does. In this instance it was purely coincidental and revelations waterfalled on me as I slogged up the mountain.I am still reaping the benefits from that day.

I am struggling with the first one currently. I have recently discovered that my network team has abandoned NCM. They are free-forming it now. They are complaining about the "unnecessary oversight." I have to reel them back in.

While the initial thought of going to Ireland for a SWUG sounds awesome I fear that the moment I land in the emerald isle I'll blow off the SWUG and start heading out to take in the splendor. Oh so tempting! Buuuuut... if you guys were giving away those sweet button down's. ;-)

Thinking ahead... for the KitchenAid Artisan Series Stand Mixer does the winner get to pick the color?

Oh I know. I live and breath it everyday with the company I work for. :-) But get this, the owner of the company says to everyone, "Treat me like every other employee." And he genuinely means it. It's all the people who work directly for, and around, him that like to throw his weight around and drive our support teams nuts.

Good luck stopping the tide there pal. ;-)

Kudos on the completion of the Deadpool/Ikea accomplishment. This is indeed a proud moment. :-) I used to LOVE the Olympics, especially after the '84 LA Olympics where I basically ate for free at McDonald's for 2 straight weeks (Remember that disastrous promotion from McD's?) But once they started letting pro's in, and me…

Done & Done! I always a quick 250 points added to my total. Some interesting questions about BYOD and remote management. :-)

Working on this now. If/when we complete this do we also get Thwack points?? I am always slummin' for Thwack points!

Interesting picture you posted. For once, a tamer representation of current US politics. :-) Long overdue. And speaking of avoiding a DDOS and living in a shack in Montana... the thought has crossed my mind a lot lately.

Those "email pranksters". When the news outlets first reported the story they kept saying "email prank" and I kept mumbling to myself, "phishing". And that is a crime. And in this case with the White House as a target, not one to be taken lightly. Nice badge collection, BTW. Those hooks are earning their keep.

Pictures like these can be taken in hourly increments. We would see the enormity of the ecological mess that is being made with these "disposable" electronics.

AwesomeSauce! I am the father of two young children. We listen to Absolutely Mindy on Kids Place Live on SiriusXM every morning as a result. Yesterday morning Mindy was asking listeners for their favorite Dad Jokes. So on a whim I called in and made it on the air and told my joke. I think I made Mindy snort:she laughed so…

Interesting... what seems like forever ago (Reality: 4 years ago) my company was one of the first 7 customers to implement SAP's HANA in-memory DB into a PRD environment (Remember in a previous post I spoke about leadership filling out their LinkedIn profiles?). There was a tremendous internal struggle to be had over who…

Nope! :-) Why, "...setup a process using action rules to ensure an email is automatically sent to your boss' son to let him know your team is working on his issue.", when... "other than the client or tech already assigned to the ticket who should receive this email."

Good points. Remote access extends your network. Thus your network becomes exposed. Endpoint security is paramount to protecting the corporate assets and intellectual properties. But all of this security and lockdown has to be tempered with sensitivity to the UX. And all that comes with a price tag.

We use an environmentally safe hardware and data destruction firm. The Employees Activities Committee at my company took the lead on advertising what all could be considered for this type of destruction. Not only computers and monitors, but keyboards, mouse, docking stations, printers, chargers, and more. Our piles can get…

Any recommendations on how many days logs to keep? Or is there a size amount? And to keep for how long? I work in an enviornment with thousands of workstations. Is there an equation to reference or something?

Cal Ripken, Sr., Cal Ripken's dad, was known for saying, "It's not practice that makes perfect....but perfect practice that makes perfect." And, "Don't make half a good play." The first quote is self-explanatory but the second may need a little more. Here is an example, in baseball terms: You play shortstop. The batter…

I always look forward to your contributions. lol

I agree. I was surprised by HP's boldness here. Frankly, I was wondering what they were going to do after Dell bought EMC. I was figuring that up until last week that HP's lack of action meant bad times ahead. But now I realize that they waited for the best 'Next Step." On an unrelated note, I used to work for Kerry Bailey…

We are trying to roll out SD WAN here, but we keep getting in the way of ourselves. Legacy equipment, legacy applications, legacy code, etc. If we could start out net-new then I think we would have a much easier time. I am sure many companies have similar feelings.
