Unless you have a foyer/mudroom with multiple locked doors I cannot fathom anyone allowing Amazon unfettered access to their home. I mean... seriously people. Typical of InfoSec to be intolerant. It is the old curmudgeon of IT. Dang whippersnappers wanting everything their way. Back in my day UX meant waiting!! And we…

Time isn't flying by fast enough. What's taking so long? Let's do this already!!! (Ready for THWACKcamp '18)

I haven't submitted my answer yet because I am totally confused over C. Is PerfStack upgraded? Or is Performance Analysis upgraded? Or are they considered one in the same for this question?

The more I read of your travels the more I am reminded of Anthony Bourdain's show. People, culture, food... and in your case, technology, coexist to form distinct societies. Not a bad gig the way I describe it.

Huzzah! Huzzah! Let the Initiation Ceremony commence!!! now where did i put those barrels of jello?

We use SAP's Solution Manager. Because SolarWinds hasn't cracked that nut yet... :-)

Wow! Talk about topicality! This article came out just in time!!!

Kong, good article. It scares me. I am not a developer nor could I ever be one. Yet applications are the future. In my current gig I was fortunate enough to hitch my wagon to SAP (Basis & Authorizations), and there seems to be some long-term stability with that technology. I think I will start running my own queries on…

These are examples of the consumer demand driving the availability of IoT before it has been fully vetted. The experts knew of the risks long ago but the consumer marketplace kept driving the demand. $$$ is to be had so vendors aren't going to waste the opportunity. Security be darned!

Honestly.... Brass Tacks SolarWinds. You want to make yourself a real market leader get into the cloning business. Because if I could clone myself 3x over I could reaaaaaaaaaly deliver on the SolarWinds value prop. :-)

Great series. I've signed up for the 4-hour training on NetFlow scheduled for February. I've also found a training video for NetFlow that I will be watching during lunch. Other than that I have found that the NTA resource material appears to be rather dated. I am hoping that means it hasn't changed much.

That is a scary reality being a decade into an ERP implementation and not being completed. Truth be told, it isn't the software that is the problem. There are failures across the board with the project management and executive sponsorship for it to take 10 years.

BUMP! Really, this should be a no-brainer! True story! I got burned by this. I muted all of my distribution offices in Florida, $1B in annual sale, ahead of Hurricane Irma, and I forgot to unmute afterward. Soooo, all of their alerts had been muted for the past 3+ months until a major WAN outage last weekend and everyone…

Be a developer/programmer. That is where all the 'sexy' is. Infrastructure is treated like plumbers/HVAC. No respect until things break. And accept early on that it's the people that make the job crazy. The technology is the easy part. Last bit: I hated school growing up (probably because I couldn't sit still for so long).…

...waiting patiently for the last day's posting to be up! ;-)

The best I can do... A family tradition that goes back 40 years. We head down to South Bethany, DE. and spend at least one day at the beach, It's not so much patriotic, but my father was a veteran of WWII and this is what he did with his family so I enjoy continuing the tradition. Of course there is the obligatory 20 mile…

The mere fact that Office Space has been slotted to the "Play-in" rd. is reflective to how this movie was originally received upon release.

Well... in a way video did kill plenty of radio stars. Namely, all those progressive rock bands of the 70's who couldn't make the transition: SuperTramp, ELO, ELP, Yes (they were completely done over by the time "Owner Of A Lonely Heart" came out), Alan Parsons Project, and others.

For most, the biggest hurdle with exercise and fitness is mental (Homer Simpson had it right, "Stupid brain!"). By breaking it down to simpler tasks and with an approach that you are familiar with those hurdles become easier to overcome. Then you build momentum and you will reach the pinnacle where the effort no longer…

I shared it on my company's Yammer page. It didn't seem to take effect. So I started to walk up to people and wish them a Happy IT Pro Day. They looked at my cross-eyed. Methinks I need to hang the banners up early next year.

I believe it was Twain who said that. I repeat those words often... but oddly enough I never followed my own advice.

Bravo! Once again SolarWinds rises to the occasion with community service. You guys truly are awesome.

SAM is a powerful tool, a beautiful APM compliment to the Orion NPM. However, it is not a "Set It & Forget It!" tool. To extract its enormous value and ROI it requires: time/resources & a plan. For my company we have servers and networks coming and going like subway trains. It makes it difficult to establish standards and…

Run! Run fast! Run far! Don't stop running... Ever! Quicksand, blackhole, superglue, all rolled into one. I've seen it happen far too often. lol Me? I've remained too dumb throughout my career to become a DBA.

Pokémon Go reaffirms the adage that has been in place for 20+ years now. The gaming industry is 1 of the 2 industries that drives the technology of the internet. Pokémon Go was unique because it was the rare occasion where players actually got up and moved around. A very interesting sociological experiment indeed.

Hi. It appears that the links for Hints for all of this week's questions aren't working.

IT training, in whatever medium, has always provoked a lively discussion here on Thwack. We tech guys are all huge proponents of training as we live and breathe the value. We have ridden on the coattails of technology the past x+y years and we were smart enough to stay on top of it. That being said, here are my 2 cents on…
