Thanks. What did you like most about it?

I installed the 6.3.1 RC yesterday. How do I go about participating in the Beta testing so I earn Thwack points and a badge?

"Accidental Cloud DBA" I still chuckle at that phrase. The reality is sometimes a bit more gloomy. But on the Brightside the potential and the opportunity is a lot more real! Hey! Ending a very tough week on a bright note!

I goofed around on that kevan.org site some (Wikipedia: The Text Adventure). That is one scary talented dude. If anyone has some time to burn go to his site and click on some of his links. Wowza!!!

Already booked my two days in the Man Cave for this. Can't wait!!! Although it won't be the same as last year... <sniff>

Microsoft MVP?!? *GASP* They stole that title from Thwack! <wink> The volume of "personal information" that is being stolen/released/hacked these days is numbing at this point. At this point one should just accept that very bad people have your information.

I have been the flag-waver here for a 21st century password policy, but I am fighting too many "Best Practices", whitepapers, and SAP standards (Trust me, nobody wins taking on SAP!). So I am starting a grass-roots efforts to introduce a new password philosophy.

I imagine that that the lines between Cloud and on-prem in the Hybrid IT environment aren't clearly drawn. There are plenty of cross-dependencies. Be careful with your transport. Make sure it is sufficient and reliable. Check to see that your provider isn't charging you based on usage (unless you are fine with that). And…

We migrate to our new NPM12 on Wednesday. I am beyond excited about it. I've been and watching so much!

Nobody must have got my reference. :-( I guess I am the only one on here who watches The Crown...

Your original argument holds water because in the sports world the difference between amateur and professional is financial compensation. See Olympics and college sports. You can be an IT professional and not be as dedicated to your craft as is a musician. You can be an amateur and be more dedicated than a pro.

adatole you were with me in spirit! :-)

I don't want to come off as sounding too critical, but I challenge these 5 components as "Advanced". To me these seem to be leaning towards more foundational components to build off of. In this day and age of "DevOps", "SDN", and "Cloud", components like "dynamic", "flexible", and "UX" are all the rage. The IT landscape…

Automation can be a double-edged sword. For environments like mine that are constantly changing, self-initiated automation is a dream. Automation opportunities are presented to us in the form of embedded tools within enterprise-class programs. Example: NCM. If you are in a dynamic environment like mine then it is paramount…

Yes, most companies do now. BCM is primarily a consulting gig these days. I read an interesting article over the weekend reporting on the fact that BCM is starting to be swallowed up by InfoSec. This is all driven by the continued business continuity disasters caused by network hacks that make the news. It has become a…

I love the cheatsheet. I am going to apply this for more than just GitHub. :-) As for distracted driving I see no less than 10 drivers everyday looking directly at their phone while driving to and from work. But I also see people, eating, drinking, fidgeting with controls, applying make-up, shaving, personal grooming, etc.…

Poor Clippy. I liked him. There were others too.

If I could change anything in the hacker community it would be for them to adopt the code, "Honor among thieves" and for them to lay off places like hospitals, schools, and small non-profits.

SAP isn't an IT software company, it's business software. Finance, Sales, Manufacturing, HR, Supply Chain, and much more. These speakers spoke on success. Success in business, careers, in life. How many of them overcame adversity, internal and external obstacles, and at the end of the day what is really important to them.…

I've only been immersed in the traditional: "SBX-DEV-QA-PrePRD-PRD" development lifecycle for 6+ years and I have not liked it. I much prefer the Google mindset, "We Push Out New Code And You're Going To Like It!" As an end user it has required me to be less involved.

Nessie is still my big winner. I am still in this fight!!!

Understood. Are you running a homogenous environment? We aren't and it kills me that SW gave up on FSM. It bottomed out my "Single Pane of Glass" platform.

I am not very good at long goodbyes…

I use SNMP because there is nothing easier/better to replace it. Solarwinds intuitiveness and SNMP go hand in hand.

I am so envious! Our datacenter is the equivalent of that house in the neighborhood that has the plaid couch with the broken leg on the front porch.
-
But speaking of shirts... I pulled this off last year!

I am in the middle of writing a blog now that I am totally stuck on. Been chewing on it for over a month. I used last month's activity to avoid that too... lol
-
Agreed rschroeder. I have to figure out a way to spend 6 months a year in Austin so that I can take advantage of these.
-
I am highly excited about this game. I want it for work for team-building exercises and fun activities. Playing this with my 6 and 10 year old may not be as cathartic. lol My wife and I will be the only ones laughing.

I love me some security now that I am running security
