This has become my favorite feature in NCM... no more me going out to look. NCM reporting is telling me.

It was a great time. And even when it wasn't such a great time the UX PM's and Head Geeks were receptive and made changes on the fly. I learned that this was the 2nd time that Solarwinds hosted a large group of MVP's for Thwackcamp. And this year was twice as big as last year. So there are some natural growing pains but…

Good to know! Thanks wabbott Here's hoping you guys don't lose the @250k Thwack points I've earned in the last two weeks. I really put my nose to the grindstone to earn those. :-)

am confused by today's question. I know what the answer should be. But I don't understand how this question is being asked...

Just curious. Do you get 50 Thwack points with your post. Do I get 50 Thwack points with this one? :-)

After all these "Everyhing I Needed to Know ABout IT..." articles I am going to go out on a limb and say that adatole is a visual learner. :-)

I work in the office for where the past 7 years this model was inverted when it came to "Urgency" in relation to "Transformational". To the extent that "Best Practices" was perceived as a roadblock and therefore sacrificed. For the longest time I was under the opinion that the primary focus of my leadership was to dazzle…

We just finished our NCM rollout. 240+ Cisco switches. Will be adding firewalls and a whole bunch other other asundries next. Already looking to overlaying it all with NTA. We expect productive results.

With all the excitement of being onsite for TC17 I totally forgot to answer questions #14 & #15. DOH!

Traits of not just a good IT administrator, but a good person in general. Embody positive characteristics in your work ethic and you will eventually be rewarded. I, as a manager. am always on the lookout for responsive and responsible individuals to endorse and grow.

20+ years ago I worked for an HMO in Maryland. My buddy's girlfriend had a failing heart and she was constantly on the phone with said PMO begging for them to cover the necessary procedures to repair the bad heart. They refused saying it wasn't deemed necessary. 18 months later she died. Her older brother, who also was a…

Streamlined Network Troubleshooting is probably at the top of my holiday wish list. I am tired of digging through sloppy networks to find the problem all the while the Network team throws up their hands. Make it so.

My 5 year old would go ballistic if he knew Capt. Barnacle from the Octonauts wasn't in the running! For Shame!!!

sqlrockstar I see that tractor trailer and I am reminded of this classic Simpsons dialogue!

I have heard similar horror stories on SAP integrations, but those are really the outliers. My company has done well over a dozen with very little disruption. Furthermore, experienced SAP integrators will tell you that it 99% the integrator's fault over the software.

whpd it wasn't easy, and with the constant updates that we have been receiving from Sophos the past 12-16 months have been driving us crazy (on many levels). As expected Sophos writes a TON of logs. My engineer worked a lot with Sophos Support to try to filter them out but to no avail. It required us to grow space to…

Mergers seem to rule the day lately. VMware & Amazon. Verizon buying XO. AT&T buying TW Telecom. Earlier this year Dell buying EMC.

Touche` Jfrazier. I noticed that right off the bat. Scalability is as a basic component as all these others.

<sigh!> Due to recent events I have lost touch with tech this week. I applaud those who were able to keep up.

My favorite part of the whole FB debacle is that while Mark was testifying he made $3 billion. If that doesn't scream of dysfunction I don't know what does.

Thursday bump!

My biggest pet peeve of IT. Version upgrades/patches/firmwares, etc. We in Support are a mouse on a wheel working hard and running in place when it comes to versioning. So much time. Soooo much technical debt. This needs to be improved.

Solid points. When forecasting your DR scenarios don't allow yourself to be bogged down in details. Unfillable gaps will be found. They always are. Document them and advertise them. Never! Ever! shove them in a drawer or assume that they are forefront in the CIO's mind. Chances are it deals with resources (Every IT…

I do think data has gravity. And I think its own gravity can have a dramatic influence that will impact current and future data of the same type. Real-time decision-making... Here is an, admittedly, weak example: Between Baltimore and DC there are four major thoroughfares: I-95, B/W Pkwy, Rte. 1 ("What Hath God Wrought"),…

Kudos to all. Why does it receive so many awards? Because it's awesome!!!

BUMP! C'mon guys! This really should be a thing...

As a Business Continuity Professional a trend that I have seen for a long, long, long time... especially with ERP systems, is that mid-to-global businesses invest heavily into high availability and DR-capable infrastructure. These businesses will even do the due diligence of testing on a regular basis. But when it comes to…

An even match-up if there ever was one.
