I did have a lovely precis of my career in IT but the late 2025 THWACK upgrade nuked it. My TLDR: been in IT for 40yrs from a fledgling delivery & installation person to field repairs to in-house guru to network engineer to monitoring maverick!

• I've always found screenshots to be helpful for me in my early attempts at doing this sort of thing. So hopefully this isn't teaching granny to cusk eggs but.... When editing a report you can select a timescale there You then need to select your 'sample period' by clicking in Edit Table and setting options as you desire.
• For us, when this happens it means SolarWinds hasn't natively recognised the device. As a consequence it doesn't know how to do the hardware health side of it. You may need to update your version of SolarWinds -- or your MIB file -- or create UnDPs to specifically monitor this device. We don't have any 2921 K9's so can't…
• Thank you @"tony.johnson" for a most comprehensive write up, and thank you also to @"jerrysInge" and @"m_roberts" for the extra info. After working through it at my end I think I am finally starting to see the light. The important (I think) part is the aliasing - which I do use when doing JOINs, but the main problem I was…
• Thank you @"tony.johnson" - I was also pointed at this: https://support.solarwinds.com/SuccessCenter/s/article/Resources-missing-while-attempting-to-add-them-to-Orion-Web-Console-view?language=en_US Which was basically the same end solution - and for the record it worked a charm. The problem I had is I was searching for…
• Hi @"ramana.ls" and you've hit upon the precise issue we have but have not been able to solve. Sadly, it appears that SolarWinds permissions are broken (or don't work as expected) and do not offer the granularity that people want. We have had to create a sub-section of trusted users with admin rights to reports. It is far…
• Personally I don't, and I'm not aware of a resource either. That said I feel your pain. After 3yrs of using SolarWinds I still feel like a complete beginner at times.
• I'd suggest starting with getting the SDK installed and then access your environment via SWQL Studio. In there is a section called Orion.AlertActive and a default query (right-click, generate) gives meaningful results. You may subsequently want to manipulate these to fond what you want. Longer term, it might be easier to…
• Hey @"RachelH" - any chance you can assist again? The external nodes all imported fine after your huge assist with the code. However, I now need to do the same task, only this time I need to import them as SNMP v2 nodes and set their SNMP community string at the same time. So can you please amend the script so that it adds…
• Thank you again Kevin. WRT the book - I literally just caught up on the webinar recording this morning and heard that, and thought ooo nice.
• Thank you Thomas. If I understand you, you're saying I have to do two JOINs to get to what I need? First goes to NCM.Nodes which can then "onwards" connect to NCM.EntityPhysical.
• Nadolig Llawen a Blwyddyn Newydd Dda @"silverbacksays" (aka Jez) and diolch for your help this past year.
•
Long story short - stop using JOINs if you have ANY other alternative.
Thanks @"KMSigma.SWI" but that presumes I know what you mean by navigational properties Are you aware of a resource that…
• Having said that - I just read this thread where @"george.subnet" says they are running a perfstack widget to do do just what you are after - so have tagged him in and maybe he can advise how?
• Not sure I 100% follow your query. Are you saying you can't open the UnDP in PerfStack? If so, then I don't see the benefit even if you could, as Global Protect VPN Sessions OID is just a binary number... we are using OID: 1.3.6.1.4.1.25461.2.1.2.5.1.3 and we put the figures into a graph which looks something like the…
• So to discover the nodes you've used NPM - yes? So for the configs you now need to configure NCM (if you have it) to do the backups, etc The basic approach is below: * Go to the node in question (you can do this in bulk as well but let's do one first off) and click 'edit properties' * Scroll down to the section headed 'CLI…
• SOLVED IT - or why you should never just listen to someone else. Turns out, a section of the Cisco WLC I hadn't paid attention to in the past shows the 'admin status' of the AP. This one was set to disabled, so a simple change, repoll of the WLC and wait a minute caused it to show up as green.
• No, I don't think you misunderstand it at all. Perhaps I should have opened with - I know Orions Network Atlas heatmaps are a "best guess scenario" but that said ...... I've never heard of Acrylic before but will take a look. The query was more to do with how realistic I guess is NA Heatmaps, and some aspects around them.…
• Thanks for the reply and sorry, I should have added: I tried adding the widget, but it just comes back as blank/empty - so that's why I tried SWQL Studio to see the results of the query. No showstopper if I can't get it working but would have been a nice addition.
• I get nothing back on this and when I try the code in SWQL Studio it just returns: "error." Any ideas?
• Hi Rich, Apologies you haven't had a reply to date. I've only just spotted this as I was looking for something else. Anyway, I'm presuming the way you'd approach this is to use an alert that "listens" to the WLC for a down status, and then in your trigger actions configure it to be sent by eMail? If so, try:…
• So, if I follow you, and in theory [and remembering I'm not a coder as you know], if I change that last line to: >> WHERE (a.Status = '2' OR a.Status = '12') AND b.ClientPrefix LIKE '%INSERT_PREFIX%' Should just work? And it does... to a degree! However, to do so, I have to remove the Orion.AlertStatus join and…
•
what would be the max timeline which is configurable
There may well be a maximum theoretical limit but I don't know that. I believe you are more likely to hit a logistical limit…
• It looks like Orion.UserSettings or Orion.Accounts might be a good places to start. But you'd need to verify it has what you need. Generally, it depends on which area of the SDK you are looking for. But if it isn't product specific i.e. NCM, then I generally find most DB tables listed under 'Cirrus.' or 'Orion.'. HTH
• Sadly it is also my experience - but we are of a big enough size that we appear to have some clout and our account manager is very good and responsive. Good luck.
• >> Yes, I can read. Hey dude - chill. I'm just trying to help. >> But wrong configured mail-forwarding (or any other internal stuff) inside Why is it wrongly configured? To me it seems they have deliberately done that and at a guess is purely for internal communication only. >> no info about the account manager in my…
• If you want an SME then reach out to sales or your account manager - they would be best placed to help you. I'm not sure if I'm misunderstanding, but to be clear, if you have a SolarWinds setup (cloud or on-prem) then you are the one responsible. It's not hosted by SolarWinds. You have an Azure (for eg) asset of a Windows…
• You had best find out who your account manager is and talk via them. If you don't have one, or don't know who they are, then open a "customer service" support case. FWIW, the error being generated tells you exactly why you can't reach that email address, so that route will never work.
• Ahh - I based my reply on our environment as there was no mention of cloud in your original response. We are 100% on prem but they do offer their products for the clouds. I can't answer your question for that and suggest you reach out to sales in that case.
• Logistically speaking, both of these are purely restricted by how much storage and processing power you can throw at this. Practically you would need to go into Settings > All Settings > Orion Polling Settings and configure various retention settings. For example our interface retention settings are: Orion diagnostics will…
• Talking to myself, again, I've sussed out the SWQL side of it (at least I think so)... but this only works for a specified date. I don't know enough S(W)QL to say grab today, or yesterday, or grab the last hour or etc... Anyway, the query is: SELECT Events.NetObjectType, Events.NetObjectID, Events.NetObjectValue,…
