I did have a lovely precis of my career in IT but the late 2025 THWACK upgrade nuked it. My TLDR: been in IT for 40yrs from a fledgling delivery & installation person to field repairs to in-house guru to network engineer to monitoring maverick!

  • For me the solution is to ensure the device is configured properly - but this is probably like bolting the stable door after the horse has run. What do I mean ...? Well in your example I'd ensure the description on Te1/2/8 included it's Port Channel number, and then just alert on the up/down of the interface. The alert…
  • Indeed I was, but as I say I was being dull and was expecting a single 'overall' widget, not 6 individual ones and despite it staring me in the face I couldn't see it until this morning !!!!! As Bart would say, DOH!
  • First off, have you configured a default SMTP server that SolarWinds can use, and if yes, does a test email work? If yes, then can you post a screenshot of your trigger condition logic? And also confirm that your trigger action has a valid eMail action, with a working recipient eMail address?
  • I don't see how an upgrade to 2020.2.6 would cause it to not monitor memory. First thing is to go to the node and click List Resources and ensure you have the memory monitor ticked on. Then give it 10m or so and check the 'vital stats' tab to see what it is saying. If ticked on, then I suspect that it is monitoring, but…
  • To answer my own query ... I realise I was being a bit dull. KMSigma has made available an 'Overall Node Availability (Last 7 Days)' dashboard, which I downloaded and added, but with a restricted view to just myself for now. I've already created multiple dashboards and wanted an easy way to add this new one to each of…
  • Now that, I think pretty much will answer my challenge - and questions I've asked of our TAM, or support, or here on THWACK, etc ... and nobody until yourself has come up with a means to resolve our issue. Diolch yn fawr.
  • Following as I have asked this and done a lot of investigation. Bear in mind I am a complete dunce when it comes to SWQL / SQL coding so it may be the limitations are mine, or my understanding. I haven't looked at this recently but I find it unfathomable that there isn't a means to be able to do this. My thread is…
  • That's cool to know - hopefully it helps the Op.
  • I'm sure someone with more experience / knowledge than myself will be along shortly, but as far as I know SolarWinds can't do bar charts. I believe they only do: line charts, stacked area charts and big number charts.
  • I've not heard of any localised issues for me in South Wales - but then as I don't drive much these days that's not unusual. My car is due its MOT and since the last one I've done 1,500 miles in the year, which is a far cry from when I was doing, on average, >500 miles per day. Also, had a hospital appointment about 20…
  • @"bluegrue" with the way heat and fuel bills are climbing in the whole of the UK (not just England) I'd be lucky to be able to pay for a trip to the bottom of my garden soon
  • Because I couldn't let this go I appear to have fixed my issue. In mid January, we did have a few issues with the stability of SolarWinds and it could be something we/support did at that time caused this issue. Anyway, despite the validation button referencing a folder on the poller (or APE) that manages that node it…
  • Kevin - would love to assist but the issue I had** no longer occurs. I understand your explanation, and that makes perfect sense but equally having a reliable method of getting the rescan button to appear should be achievable. In reality, if it was limited to specific user accounts then that would be better but then that…
  • What device (make and model) are you talking about here? You'll probably need to create a backup template and include, for example, on HPE's 'include-credentials' or on Cisco kit "more system:running-config".
  • Indeed - and we manage all manner of manufacturers here as folks have realised: - Cisco = expensve and - Other Manufacturers = not so much and can do more with less.
  • I've only been actively using SolarWinds to monitor with (NPM, NCM, IPAM only) when my company switched to them approx 3yrs ago. I have to say that in my time of using it, I have never found THWACK overly useful to get quick and accurate responses, or even historical ones as like you, I see many queries left unanswered..…
  • That just confused me more as it just refuses to report anything. If I delete the 2nd datasource and run it works. However, in being forced to think, I think I'm understanding the report a bit more now.... So where it says 't1.status' that simply means use the datasource referenced (or pointed at) by T1.RowID - and in the…
  • I'm willing to give that a try but I refer sir to my response to tony near the top - I don't do well learning intellectual stuff from videos. Never have, and believe me I've tried and tried. Still, I'll take whatever I can at this stage.
  • Apologies - one follow up query on the report itself... I am very much a beginner with SWQL (and SQl even less), and don't understand an awful lot - however, with this report I am following most of what it does, but there is one key aspect that eludes me. There is a constant use of Row.ID but I don't see what it is…
  • Thanks Adam - I know Jez (through here of course) and another South Wales THWACK member.
  • @"[Deleted User]" - totally apropros of nothing, I just looked at your profile and realised you are UK based like myself. Second thing that jumped out at me is how close your surname is to the village I lived in from age 2 until 5 - Timperley is said village just outside Altrincham in Manchester, and was home to my first…
  • Thanks for the confirmation of your bias.... IMO, the more of us that step up and say 'help me' then the more likely we will get something official. Otherwise it's off to Social Media and things like WhatsApp or Telegram groups.
  • I'm circling back around on this so as to not forget about it, or let it disappear under all that other junk that my table acquires and looks way more important. So last I figure is this: @"KMSigma.SWI" was looking into possibility of hosting something via THWACK on a (semi) permanent basis. He was also writing a book…
  • Thank you @"sunvad" All I need do now is hope to find the same for Aruba APs.
  • This looks useful - can you walk me through your UnDP setup please?
  • Thanks again @"christopher.t.jones123"- groupings I did not know about so that's something to copy and paste to my knowledge file and use on another day. As I said to Adam though, I'm going with your prior suggestion of telling them no, it isn't possible or sensible (my paraphrasing). I've bene struggling with a damn head…
  • Thanks @"adam.beedell" this is an old query (in SWQL) written before I knew how to utilise implicit joins - but they are also something I'm very much still getting used to. And where something works I'm leaving well enough alone for now. Anyway, I've gone with telling them it isn't possible. Thinking about it [and I'm not…
  • Strictly speaking I** want it to be an either / or on the status, or indeed it could be both. ** I say I, but it's actually a request of the team that directly supports this client - if it can't be done, because as you say the interface is marked as unreachable, then that works for me.
  • Thanks for the response @"christopher.t.jones123" Unreachable is 12 for the record I just realised I've messed up my widget that actually lists out the interfaces that are down and the way I fixed that is to create two widgets side by side. One shows down ints on UP nodes, the other down ints on DOWN nodes. However that…
  • @"jonathanlippe" - doesn't look like you ever got an answer. For your query to work, simply remove the , (comma) after Status. It should look like this: SELECT AssignmentName, Status FROM Orion.NPM.CustomPollerStatusOnNode WHERE AssignmentName LIKE '%Temp%'
