I can add to this. Since a recent upgrade from 8.0 to 8.5 I cannot use variable on the Orion website such as ${IPAddress}. Previously this would resolve to the IP address of the node but now it shows in literal form. Phil.

You just need a crossover cable (cat5e/cat6 for GB) then configure any IP address within the same subnet on the card in each server. You'll then need to reference the SQL server as that IP addres rather than the hostname. However, I should think if you plug both GB cards into the same switch, that will be fast enough for…

Allow it through what exactly? You need to clarify what you're trying to do.

Currently we run Orion on an HP DL360 and the SQL database on an HP DL380. I am about to embark on a hardware consolidation project by moving both (among many other servers) to a VMWARE environment. There doesn't appear to be much discussion about this and this article makes me nervous! If I go ahead, I will post my…

Use Orion, then you can customize your map for any size and amount of nodes. Phil.

Make sure you have domain\username and not domain/username as you have written. In addition, are you logging on via a 2000/XP workstation to your NT/AD domain, and is that workstation a member of your domain? The proxy server point is important - are you using one?
-
I tried this using 2000/2003 resource kit tools, but it isn't easy. The latest version of Orion (7.7) comes with an integrated Syslog server which is receiving fantastic reports so far... Phil.

You need to use a decent icon editor; Icon Workshop is good but it isn't free. www.axialis.com/.../

I'm running 7.4 and find the whole element of icons fiddly. Especially when it comes to resizing them. I have managed to copy-paste Cisco images from Visio with reasonable success. In addition, I have used MS Office Picture Manager which exports WMF to GIF/JPEG very nicely. Phil.

I would also be very interested to hear if this is possible.
-
Just use the Net Time service. You can sync it to your Active Directory domain, or from any time server on the Internet. Phil.
-
Perhaps check that the 2524 switches are allowing any host to connect via SNMP and not just a specific list. Phil.
-
So I guess it works when you turn the XP firewall off? Orion will use SNMP to monitor devices, unless you tick the box at the bottom of the "add" window. Then it will just use ICMP. Try adding TCP/UDP 161 which should allow SNMP. Phil.

So it seems that if you add "domain\everyone" into the accounts list, this acts as a catch all for any Active Directory users which don't have matching accounts in Solarwinds. This has then allowed me to configure the exclusive web page I wanted. Phil.
-
I guess that could work, but I'm determined to find a solution which requires no additional expenditure! Phil.

From within Map Maker have you assigned the line to represent an interface on a device? Right-click etc... it doesn't do this for you.
-
Not sure whether you can do this. But as a fix, why don't you paste the multiple maps into a single image file? Phil.

For a quick and cheap solution, download Ethereal (.com) and install on a PC/laptop. Then plug a hub (not switch) between your PIX and the interface which connects your LAN. You can then plug the PC/laptop into the hub and sniff every packet hitting your PIX. Although Ethereal's GUI is not as comprehensive as paid sniffer…

Isn't this #1 requested feature? You're asking for custom MIB support. We can only but wait... Phil.
-
Annoying isn't it. If you go to manage your alerts, then untick the reboot alert, click done, then go back in an re-enable it, that'll clear it from the alerts page. Phil.
-
Unless I'm mis-understanding, why can't you untick the ports from within the alerts window? Phil.
-
There is a lot of customization you can do. Initially I formed the front page into two columns with Cisco kit on the left and Windows kit on the right. Now I just have a geographical map with a handful of tiny icons for groups of services. Perhaps I’ll post my front page – start a new thread with everyone's examples!

I received a book after purchasing it - you should of had one mailed to you?

I have just installed 7.7, was running 7.5 previously. No serious problems, but then no noticeable differences (except syslog). It has reset some the images I customised, but they are easy to change back. Can't get the Toolset Integration part working, right-clicking doesn't bring any Toolset options... Phil.

I think I know what is happening. I published that image on my briefcase.yahoo site, that link to access an image directly is scrambled each day. Here is todays link - you'll notice the end is slightly different. So I just need a website to host the images. In the meantime if you travel to…

So hopefully you should be able to see the top page of my Solarwinds implementation...

As I understand, I have to include an HTML link in my post. If this is the case, how do I get the image on the forum in the first place?
