Thanks for commenting. This is a good question for one of our NPM writers, so I'll pass it along. In the meantime, you might want to check for help and suggestions from the NPM community here: .

I spoke with Andrew, and he suggested the following reboot order for your servers: * SQL Server * NPM * NCM (assuming that's what you meant by "NPC") * NPM Addl Web Servers * Failover Engines
-
Also, regarding how to automatically apply the WSUS updates and restart the servers, you might want to check out our Patch Manager product, referenced in my post. Andrew can comment upon how frequently you should update/restart your NPM server, and in what order; but if you're looking for a way to automate patching your…

If rebooting doesn't do the trick, it would probably be best to open a Support ticket.

Alternately, if it's OK with you, please post a screenshot of the Search Builder (far right icon) and the search bar, along with the complete username you're searching for, and I'll see if I can come up with any other suggestions. Thanks again.

That description really refers to object auditing in general, which, in the case of file audit events, refers to whether or not specific files or folders are set to log at that level. I'd say try these two things to see if they help: * Make sure your audit policy matches across all of your servers. * Check to see if the…

Thanks, Stevan. Here's a link to the new KB based on your feedback, Nicole's suggestions, and additional feedback from Support. SolarWinds Knowledge Base :: How to troubleshoot the LEM Directory Service Query connector to configure Active Directory users and groups Phil

Have you been in touch with a Sales Engineer? They should be able to get on a GoTo Meeting with you to see what's happening. This functionality normally works perfectly, so if you're seeing something out of the ordinary, we definitely want to see it too so we can report the bug. Thanks.

Based on what we have here so far, I'm guessing this is an environmental issue. Steve, did you reach any sort of resolution with Support? Stevan, when you open the Support case, will you please post your ticket number so we can track it, and then post your resolution so we can write a KB article if necessary? Thanks. Phil

Hi, Byron. Sorry I didn't get back to you yesterday. At this point, I think it would be more time-effective if you were in touch with a Sales Engineer. If you've already touched base with someone in Sales, they can get you in touch with an Engineer. Otherwise, PM me your contact into and I'll touch base with one of the…
-
That's probably a good idea. One thing to check before you touch base with Support, though: Make sure you have the connector configured and started on your LEM Manager. That might be part of the problem. You might have already done this, but I thought I'd mention it just in case. Thanks for keeping us posted. You're an…

I've been talking with Support and they suggested a reboot. If you did not reboot your appliance after changing the hostname, you have to do that for the change to fully "stick." We're also doing some testing here...
-
Here's a link to the section you'll need: Procedure. Note: The recommendations in this document are based on optimizing your LEM implementation, not necessarily any particular audit standard. If you're trying to meet the requirements of a particular standard, as you implied above, you will probably want to customize these…

Hi, Adam. It looks like this one's going to end up being a Support call. Once you have a ticket open, will you please post your ticket number here so I can keep an eye on it and update the appropriate articles with any notes or corrections? Thanks.

Looks like our PM answered you here: http://thwack.solarwinds.com/message/176138#176138. Did resetting the admin password work for you?
-
If you're not going to use wildcard characters, you have to put in the exact username. With that in mind, feel free to use trailing wildcard characters; just don't use leading wildcard characters. If you still can't get it to work, you might want to open a Support ticket.

The SolarWinds LEM Installation Guide is going to be phased out with the next release (coming in October), so that's why it hasn't been updated with the latest information. Regarding your additional questions about the LEM Agent: First, the Remote Agent Installer uses a completely different process than the remote update…

Do all of the servers have the same level of file auditing enabled in Windows? We have a KB with recommendations if you're interested: [LEM] Audit Policy and Best Practice.

In Monitor, where are you seeing the incorrect hostname - i.e. what kind of Alerts, and what fields?

Hi, there. Sorry you've been waiting so long. An alternative method for contacting Support would be to submit a ticket and wait for a call-back or return email. Once you have a ticket open, will you please post the ticket number here so we can track its progress? If this is a common issue, I want to be sure to document it.…

My pleasure. I'll update the KB article to make that more clear.

We have the Content Exchange for customers to share things like this, but we don't currently have a spot there for Patch Manager. Until that area becomes more robust from a Patch Manager perspective, here's a little more information about what you're trying to do: * You can find defaultpackageboot.xml in…

Hi, Mark. I thought I'd touch base to see if you were able to resolve this. According to my notes, a sales engineer was going to get in touch with you to troubleshoot this further. Did that ever happen? If you've come to a resolution, please post it here for future users, and I'll make sure it gets into the appropriate…

Here are a few examples of how to integrate devices with LEM: * Using the SolarWinds LEM Agent Installer for Linux (Agent-based integration) * Integrating VMware ESXi with SolarWinds LEM (Syslog-based integration) You can also browse the following sections of the LEM KB for similar articles: * LEM :: Agents * LEM ::…

If the option in Iron Port is "local7," then that should match the default Log File path on the LEM Manager. If you have that set correctly and the connector is started, look for alerts in the filter I suggested above, or keep an eye out for "Unmatched Data" alerts in the SolarWinds Alerts filter. If you don't see either,…

I haven't see that particular error, but I have a couple of things you could try: 1. Make sure the program argument and additional argument are in their respective boxes, as setting these up in Windows 7 is different than doing so in Windows XP, for example. Here's what it should look like: * Program Argument (use quotes):…

That's odd. Two things to try: * Check Result Details (second icon from the right on the bottom toolbar), and see what's highlighted in those alerts. Only the values you searched for should be highlighted. * Modify the search so you're not using a leading wildcard character in the search value (pencil icon). nDepth doesn't…

Here are a few things to check: * Verify the values in the connector (tool) are correct. * After the connector is started, click Test Domain Connection on the details pane to verify that your LEM Manager can communicate with your DS server. * If the connection fails, make sure your DS server can communicate with your LEM…

Thanks for the update, Mark. I verified the solution with Support and our documentation. For future readers: The following are the KB articles Mark and I referenced throughout this discussion. Configuring LEM Reports on Computers Without the LEM Console Configuring Default Batch Reports on Vista/7/2008 Computers Thanks.

You're not the only one. :) One of the features in the upcoming release is a new-and-improved user/admin guide for LEM. It will better organized and more comprehensive -- more like what you've come to expect from the other SolarWinds products. Thanks again.
