A double whammy of disappointment there for me! I'm on holiday and training for the entirety of the competition, and also not a US resident Good luck the rest of you though

Unfortunately, I think teh ability to do monitoring from your mobile is a Bad Thing (tm) in some ways. You mention in the article about being able to be sat by the pool on vacation and respond to monitoring alerts. I don't know about other readers, but personally when I'm on holiday I don't really want to be tethered to my…

While this would be nice to see, I don't expect it will happen as that is more-or-less what the SolarWinds LANsurveyor tool is designed to do.

Some nice looking featueres in there - more so than with the recent 10.2 to 10.3 update. Particularly pleased to see the ability to add pre-defined values to Custom Properties Node deduplication will be an interesting one for me. Since upgrading my NCM install from 6 to 7 I've noticed a couple of dupliated nodes creep in;…

Just downloaded and instantly hit a minus point when compared to puTTY... This SSH client comes as an MSI file which requires me to install. Whilst I can do this (I have admin rights) puTTY is distributed as a single EXE file. This means that I am (kind of) not installing anything when I use puTTY, which means I'm less…

Got to admit this isn't one I'm quite so interested in at present. We only use a single poller so it isn't something I can say I've had experience with. Guess it makes sense to have a single point of managmene however... Removes the risk of inconsistencies in the way things happen.

What do you mean by "read/filter messages from there."?

Would help if the referenced website didn't want to download to my PC rather than display the page in the browser :-/ Do you know if they can handle Cisco devices as well as "computers"?

So why is there a thing that shows how many vote and the fact I've not voted?! Is this just an oddity of Jive that we'll see due to the infancy of the Ideation system, i.e. in future an Idea will go from Open For voting to WWWO and hence make a little more sense? Please give those of us who are still in a decaffeinated…

It won't let me vote Do I need to follow something to vote on this, or has it been configured with too short a voting period?

I only have the choice of IE at work. And usually that sort of thing is a server config thing! It's a nice idea, but I'm not sure it's something I personally think SolarWinds should be rushing to do just yet. They probably have the majority of the server market covered with HP, Dell and IBM. The only vendor I'd like to see…

This isn't really something I'd be looking for as a feature request. You'll probably get a much better response asking for some help writing a report that will get this information for you in the "Reports Lab" within the "Labs" Space

Anything that can make RTCD easier to set up and manage will get a thumbs up from me

I think we'll have to agree to disagree on Windows 7 being the best... I think XP was the peak of Windows quality. I've grown up with Windows from 3.1 through to 7 (thankfully skipping ME). I really don't like the start button and task bar in 7 - one of my biggest gripes is the way when I click on the IE program group, for…

I think they're already aware... A number of people have suggested Cisco network device health monitoring

I've used Nagios previously, and I have to admit I didn't find it took up too much of my time once I'd got my head around SNMP (Nagios was my first experience in the world of monitoring and SNMP) and found useful resources and ways to order my config files. Plus it gave me something to occupy my mind during lulls in…

How well does the product align with ITILv3, and does it integrate with Active Directory?

Can I check what time this will be in the UK. You say 11am GMT and the ics file adds the event into my Outlook calendar at 11am, but the UK switches to BST over the weekend so should this be 12 noon BST and the ics is ignoring timezones, or do you mean the event will start at 11am in the UK and you've forgotten our time…

No worries. Let me know how you get on. May be a reason not to upgrade!

I always found getting the vars right with custom pollers to be something of a dark art. Best thing to do is to get the alert to just email yourself and put variables in to see which ones you need. In terms of the alery, I think you need to re-order things. I *think* you need to move your 2 "Status" lines need to be at the…

Also, given the Syslog server runs as a Windows service you might find something in one of the Windows Event Logs that gives you some indication of why the service fails to stay running.

Interesting... I'm only on 2011.1.0 Wonder if SolarWinds have managed to remove a useful feature during an upgrade! *throws soft toys at the devs to see if they know*

Am half out the door on my way to another site; but it is in one of the manuals. I think it's the common components manual. If no-one posts I'll dig it out tomorrow morning :)

Or you could try updating it yourself... That is the whole point of Wikipedia! :)

Ok, so Cisco have a page on their site that allows you to find out about their OIDs and return values. This page can be found at http://tools.cisco.com/Support/SNMP/do/BrowseOID.do?local=en If we start with your first one, ciscoEnvMonFanState, paste that into the text field and hit "Translate". You'll now get a page that…

Just to throw that old "gotcha" out there; you don't happen to have McAfee running somewhere? Don't forget its habit of blocking most programs from connecting out to port 25 on remote systems!

A quick Google (search term "open telnet in putty from IE") came up with: http://www.twpsyn.com/archives/45 It's aimed at IE7, but I have tried it with IE8 and it worked.

You're definately seeing different to what I see! What version of the Alert Manager are you running?

Perhaps I'm missing something... Is the original poster referring to the web interface, or the software interface? His screenshot seems to be from the software version; the advice is all geared to the web version. However, in the software version there are various "Find..." options under the "Edit" menu which may be the…
