Come on everyone, you all know how cool it would be to have a mind reading superpower, and besides, who needs to know anything beyond 140 ch

An absolute must have!

Since I work as a Defense Contractor to the Missile Defense Agency, somehow my family thinks I actually have something to do with shooting down incoming missiles.

Happy Birthday Thwack! Here's to many more years to come.

Just like Active Directory, duplicate a user and change the name for the new user.

When asked, "What time is it," don't tell them how to build a watch (or more to our world, how to configure ntp).

Is there an easier way I can get the ebook, "Monitoring: Moving Beyond Simplistic Monitors and Alerts to #monitoringglory? I'm in DoD and can't get to download and can't seem to remember to log on at home and try.

GNS3 is a great tool. I have used it off and on over the past few years. I highly recommend it!

This sounds fun. Lends itself to more "smack talk" than last years. Looking forward to it.

The overall network diagram I tend to keep it simple. Rectangles represent devices, interfaces identified, my OSPF area depected, and clouds for server farms and user groups. I have seperate system interconnect drawings which show the nitty gritty of it all.

We use a mix of both.

This is good stuff, THANKS!

There are rarely any new ground breaking exploits. The old ones come back time and again just slightly modified.

I work for the government, so I have sold my sole to them. Everything is monitored and tracked. Our device harddrives are encrypted just in case something is lost or stolen. The only thing available to anyone who finds it or took it then is a cool cresent shaped magnet to play with. After 30+ years, I give no thought at…

While my network is not connected to the internet, we are connected to a classified network that has a lot of interest by bad guys. There is a gated fence to get onto the property, guards at the building enterence, a card key door to get into the area, and finally a cypher lock to get into the data center. We have loads of…

Looks like I am in the same boat as many others here. Our focus is mostly reachability, but in reality we need to focus more on the availability. Ultimately, we need to be very concerned about the quality of service provided to our customer, and that is more about the availability rather than reachability.

Lots of good info, thanks Bronx. I'll keep all of this in mind when I go through the upgrade process later.

Just recently we had an issue crop up at the wrong time, which of course brought a lot of attention and "help" from our customer. I am a DoD contractor, and any of you who have experince in my world know what I'm talking about. I am the network engineer for a center which supports several different contracts, all in theory…

glenkemp, thanks for the articles, they've been very good reads and provided good information.

Danielle, Thanks for the mission. It was not so Impossible! But it was fun.

It's a cold dark place.

Last year when we went through the process of upgrading our storage, the sizing "dance" took what seemed like forever. Our biggest hurdle was the fast, good, or cheap triad. The most important stipulation placed on us the our customer was cheap, followed closely by good. We, the IT guys, wanted fast up there because if it…

Clouds? Can't trust 'em, constantly shifting with the winds.

It really is.

RIP Lawrence Garvin! Condolences to his family.

Unfortunately, I didn't do it, I just inherited it. Not that the guy who set it up did a bad job, just wish I could have been involved for the experience.
-
This looks great. I haven't installed our NCM yet, so I'll need to get the newer version and have a clean start. Thanks.

As a network guy, my experience has been, "the network is slow!" But it is basically the same thing, if, we as a whole, could have insight into each others domain, then perhaps time to resolution could be shortened. But that only works if the person viewing the information has a clue to what they are seeing and not the…

We have a YUM server for primary patching and do some manual patching as needed. And yes, no one likes having to manually patch, same for any OS.
