The test function for alerts is fairly rudimentary. It work well for simple alerts, not so much for more complex alerts. I always test by limiting the scope trigger and action and setting the threshold to where I know it will trigger for a real alert. Then I reset the trigger and actions to include all the elements and…

We don't do that directly but you might inquire with one of our partners, Sigma Solutions Online.

I'll check on this one and get back to you.

Yes - SNMP needs to be enabled

Can you give us some specifics? How many elements are you managing. What is your Orion serer and sql server hardware (drives, RAID, memeory cpu etc)? Wheree are you looking for the new nodes to show up? I use the All Nodes tree in the summary page.

I have found that Orion v9 allows the ability to control which module tabs each user sees. We are calling for Beta customers now...

Habakkuk, I labed this out and found I was able to limit a user to one non-wireless device and set the two wireless views to none as you described. The result is that the user does only monitor the indicated device but will see the wireless module link (and the others). When the user clicks on wireless they see a default…

Just the methods I have indicated. The one mentioned in the paper is a bit of work to set up but it is only 2 alerts. I have deployed that method one about 100 devices and it took about 1/2 hour to set up. Once it is set up you maintain it mostly via the custom properties UI.

No problem. Just click on the pulldown button on the resource.

It might be the export interface. Are you collecting ingress flows on the pre-NAT interface?

Yes, those terms are often interchanged in networking. IP SLA is best used to measure WAN quality and latency. LAN ports tend to have very low latency locally. LAN latency issues are typically caused by accessing a remote LAN. The latency introduced in the WAN between the sites is the major contributor to the overall…

I've never seen that. If you open a ticket and include the diags we can probably tell what happened.

Did you try the endpoint search resource?

When you create the UnDP you have the option to "Keep 'Historical data" This will allow you to make a graph or gauge to track the OID value and see if it makes sense. 120 is a very suspecious number for an UPS to indicate as this is typical of line voltage. I would do a MIB walk on that device and see if the MIB used to…

Sorry to hear about that misunderstanding. The good news is that LWAPP support is on top of the wireless roadmap. I can't share a commited date or functionallity now but stay tuned. Andy

It's not in 10. I'll mark this for the PM to comment on the request. 10 will add 2008 R2 support though.

I believe the actual maximum throughput is adapter and bus specific. There is specialized hardware to test these but it is not a a function of an NMS.
-
Yes - but it looks like there is a small error on my nesting. I'll fix it and repost.

Patriot, The "Check the alert every" option sets the db scan frequency. The "do not trigger until..." option lets you set how long the alert condition has to be true for Orion to trigger. Setting the Do not trigger" option to a more frequent setting than the "Check for alert" frequency doesn'tmake sense. You can set the…

Yes, that is true.

Looks like Juniper licenses J-flow for an additional charge per device.

Coud be that you installation is resource bound. Do you have specifics about your Orion server and SQL server?

Hi gmisner, The link you posted only goes to the online guide table of contents. Can you point us to this in the PDF version of the guide? Need a page # or copy/paste. http://www.solarwinds.com/support/Orion/docs/OrionNPMAdministratorGuide.pdf Andy

Create the poller as an Interface poller (under Advanced Options). Also I would create yes/no a custom property like "GiG Only" and mark the interfaces you want this alert to apply to. Then indicate that the GiG Only property equall to yes as one of the alert conditions.

Cool - I'll mark this for the Toolset PM so he can chime in to. I think I remember that we were working on something like this but it could have been a dream. ;)

Hi hkor, It is a very common mistake to use 1024 for storage and memory both. It may be possible that those other tools are using 1024. Using 1024 does yield the 5.45 TB number so I have no doubt they are doing it that way. I'll double check with dev and PM on this and get back to you. Andy

Hmmm. There is one I haven't heard of before. Sorry for the misinfo!
-
I'd take a packet capture from the Orion server filtered on one of the workstations that are not showing up. That will probably expose the issue.

Core services support many different Orion products. I'm guessing you are running NPM v10. Go the node details page for one of those devices and click on rediscover. If you have a lot of devices you can kick off a rediscovery in Network Sonar under Settings.
