Sometimes the CEO comes in after seeing something bright and shiny saying "I WANT THAT!" Sometimes its okay and it fits with the budget and our current plans. Sometimes we have to explain the drawbacks.

That could be SUPERsweet! What are you using to feed this beast? or to feed Bronx for that matter?

Haven't seen a BOFH reference in quite a while. It gives me warm fuzzies.

Have you tried running the updates in safe mode? You'll have a reduced driver set, less to interfere.

I think the worst ones are the ones you didn't think you need to alert on. We weren't monitoring state on our Shortel gear and when the phones started going straight to voicemail we found that we needed at least ICMP for them. Lesson learned.

Have you seen this How long each Node or Interface was down. NPM_v.10.6 in content exchange? Its not a report per se but it gives the option to present it on the summary page.

Shortel (the phone system) offers their Director Software. It has several troubleshooting tools as part of the application.

I’m looking forward to the drawing as well.

It seems like the only way to avoid the extremes is to collect all or most logs and then filter. You can avoid drowning but your still at risk of throwing the baby out with the bath water. By changing the filter, you can at least retrieve the baby. Sorry I didn't take the time to figure out a better metaphor....

Ahhh yes....laying down grill marks with an unlicensed nuclear accelerator on your back.

It might be interesting to have a "for real" overlord battle with Genghis, Alexander, the Persians, and the Roman caesars.

Hehe, a 2 thumbs up button.

I'm letting it download to my home laptop and I have a test image on VMware at the office. They really just need to bring the old start menu back. It looks like they are trying to accommodate fat fingers on the tablet interface or something with what they have now.

You can add groups to maps with the Network Atlas. I don't know how well it translates to World Map.

The sad part is that not everybody WANTS a better way to do things. Some are very locked in to business as usual.
-
Just curious @danielleh. Is it possible to win more than one day or is your name taken out of the hat after winning a day?
-
Yes, classic shell was the first thing I did when the start menu disappeared in Windows 8.

Our information collection was more around current phone numbers and how they would map to new extensions, whether or not credit card machines and faxes would work with the VOIP phones and if there were configurations that needed to be set up in the new VOIP system to accomodate them. Give +1 to making sure the users are…

Gotta have that sunroof and those cool windows down the edge of the roof in the back.

Well deserved. I know how much you have helped me. Sounds a bit like your in a 12 step program from the post Subject though. LOL

I'm not so much visual as I don't trust what the user is reporting. We usually use Remote Desktop Services Manager for RDP sessions and TeamViewer for anything outside the RDP sphere. You can't beat seeing what the user is seeing when you are troubleshooting an issue. I couldn't count how many times someone reported that…

Double your pleasure/pain. Try paintballing on go-karts!

I have to agree with byrona about keeping documentation CURRENT. I've seen some real train wrecks because old, out of date documentation got used and set the IT group back by several days work.

Port-a-potty with a view?
