  • There are a bunch of us on this board that have been involved with the testing of v8.5 (so ask away...) as long as you have a valid/current maint on the Orion product, you should be able to install it... If you still have questions regaurding what to do on this you can call SolarWinds Support.
  • Is that happening on all charts? or just that chart for that node?
  • I am not certain if there is a "proper" sequence, but here is how I always do Orion upgrades. For shutdown I start with polling engines and work my way to the core of the Orion environment (the DB). Then reverse the process, start the DB server, then the Orion Server and finally the polling engines. In your case I would…
  • don't use the tri-color overlay, instead try the X overlay, but you still might have the same issue.
  • I had the sam issue wilth Beta build 101... Got build 111 last night and it seems to have been fixed. John J. Times
  • Can you post the rule definition? You might want to look at the Trigger Thresholds and make sure you check the "Suspend further Alert Action" button.
  • What is you SNMP timeout value set to in Orion? and what happens when you right click on the interface and select Poll interface now. I have ran across this from time to time on unusually slower and or heavily used remote links (and it could have been just me being impateint...)
  • I had a similar issue, pre 8.1, it turned out to be a lack of resource (memory & heavy disk I/O) on my db server. If you are running a separate db server then open perfmon and monitor Avg Disk Que lengths, if its high (like 100%) for a more than 2 or 3 minutes, there is your issue. Here is a good link to How to Perform a…
  • The newer F5 Big-IP's are running a Linux OS. You will have to either contact F5 for the exact OIDs or walk the tree using the EE MIB Browser and assign a custom MIB to the device. Just don't forget to add the custom MIB to the device detail view (like I usually do...)

  • I think I might see your issue... Have you tried to Add Custom Menu Item down at the bottom I generally have two browsers open (1 for the view I want to add, the other for the custom menu) you only have to do this once (per custom view) Admin > Customize Menu Bars > Edit (under any menu you have already created) > + sign >…
  • Not trying to sound silly here, but are you logged in as admin, or as yourself with admin rights? whichever way you are logged in check the permissions in Allow Account to Customize Views... Customize Menu Bars should be the sixth option from the top left hand section of the Admin view. Have you tried to create a new menu…
  • Are you in Advanced Mode? From the Admin screen make sure it has the following text near the top: There are many customization features and options. We suggest you use the Admin section in Basic Mode for a while until you become familiar with customizing Views and creating User Accounts. You can change to Advanced Mode…
  • Yes; I had the same issue after I installed the patch on my test/QA Orion server. I was in a panic until I read your post. /rant on After completly rebuilding my test/QA server; I am starting to wish that I never touched anything to do with advanced alerts (yet.) I have been working with them since Beta (it's a love/hate…

  • ELEVEN Polling Engines!!! What an admin nightmare, why so many? You can save allot of money and admin headaches by consolidating them down to five or six. The SLX polling engine can handle 6K elements each without getting strange; of course your servers need to be beefy. (max memory and processor)A deep Orion deployment is…
  • That’s the dreaded update report schema... After a few upgrades it becomes second nature... From the Orion Server Open the Custom Property Editor Right click on the grey area after Help Select Customize… On the Customize screen select Commands Scroll down to Update Report Schemas Left click and drag Update Report Schemas…
  • For Orion ver 8.5.1 see Appendix D of the Orion Administrators Guide
  • As well as the KB article here is another good explanation: Ever tried to search the Forums? Its simple just got to the top of the Orion Forum page and put gaps in the search window http://thwack.com/search/SearchResults.aspx?q=gaps+AND+sectionid%3a9&o=Relevance

  • I have actually done this migration, and it was completely painless. Even though the polling engines need to be down while reassigning elements to them, the overall process was rather quick (less than 5 minutes) and like I said above completely painless... Just read and understand all the instructions prior to starting the…

  • You might want to consider making a Custom Property like "RG" in the nodes table and put the support group in there to do this simpler. Then build your alarm based off of the ${Nodes.RG}

  • spooky... does it seem to corellate with either of your (ceclark & nwood) node / interface re-discovery times? John J. Times
  • Okay, I might have replicated you issue on accident. I ran out of DB space on my QA Orion server, so I stopped SQL server and trashed the DB, but I had forgotten to restart SQL. So; is your DB running and is there a Netperfmon.mdf with lots of space? John J. Times
  • what version are you installing on which OS(SP & patches)? John J. Times
  • Larry, On your Orion server check the latest Maintenance log file, C:\Program Files\SolarWinds\Orion\swdebugMaintenance.log, for the following lines: ERROR SolarWinds.Data.DatabaseMaintenance.NetworkElements - Failed to cleanup deleted network elements tables. • Beginning with the NPM 10.2 release (Fall 2011), SolarWinds optimizes monitoring performance by automatically balancing polling rates and polling intervals in heavy polling environments. There is a Knowledge base article on this. To get to it; go to Settings>Polling Engines>Learn More (It is on the Polling Rate line) Ther…
